With the Government due to issue its response to McNulty next month this vote of support from the entire trade union movement is a massive boost to our campaign of opposition and means that we can now count on the full support of every trade union member in every village, town and city the length and breadth of the country

“TSSA and RMT held discussions on 4, 11 and 18 October 2011 concerning the possible merger and creation of a new union. These discussions have been wide-ranging and constructive as reported in our previous statements. A number of differences between our two organisations have emerged as a result of these discussions and as previously reported in our last JOINT UNION STATEMENT ON RMT/TSSA TALKS – NO.6 (dated Wednesday 19 October2011) further discussions are required.
In order to facilitate future discussions it is likely that an informal joint meeting of our respective Executive Committees will takeplace within the next month prior to the next round of joint talks. We will of course keep you updated on developments as they occur.”

Sign the e-petition to protest against the Thameslink contract decision.
Ten thousand people marched through Derby on Saturday 23rd July to urge the government to reverse the decision. RMT members brought solidarity to their colleagues facing redundancy after the decision and were supported by thousands of local residents and well-wishers as the march made its way through the city centre.

In December the European Parliament’s Transport Committee is going to vote on the Recast of the 1st Railway Package.
The Recast 1st Railway Package aims to permanently separate wheel from steel and moves beyond simple separation of accounts. It is designed to pave the way for the 4th Rail Package on liberalising domestic passenger services and further privatisation of the railways in Europe. This means that there would be an even stronger body of EU legislation preventing the renationalisation of Britain’s railway.
