[From #occupydamestreet]

Stop The Billion Dollar Heist:
On November 2nd 2011, next Wednesday, a $1,000,000,000 bond comes due at Anglo Irish Bank. This bond is unsecured, unguaranteed, a bond we have absolutely no obligation to pay.
http://thechatteringmagpie14.blogspot.com/2011/10/billion-dollar-heist.html. If you disagree with paying this money we ask you to come to the march to show your opposition.

Last week thousands of people marched supporting #OccupyDameStreet and Real Democracy Now! Ireland from the Garden of Remembrance to the site of the ongoing occupation at the Central Bank plaza on Dame Street on Saturday 22nd of October.

We also call on supporters of #OccupyDameStreet to spread the word about this widely. Let’s double our numbers!

Text your family & friends

‘#occupydamestreet marching again sat. Meet @ Garden of rememb @ 2pm. No to billion $ heist planned for next week. It’s a swindle. Pass it on.’

– No drink, no drugs, no party political banners or flags and no violence – will also apply to this demonstration.

The scare stories surrounding Irish credit unions are about banks grabbing that share of the lending market - nothing else.

Take this piece of logic from RTE yesterday:

Irish credit unions are significantly under-lent, with an average loan to asset ratio of 42.45%. This compares with an average loan-to-asset ratio of 177% in the banking sector, which has over-lent. Because of this low lending ratio, the sector has not been as profitable as the banks.”

Not as profitable as the Irish banking system which is currently bankrupt?

RTE ran with the following headline : “€1 billion of arrears in credit unions“.

The actual article said, though, that there was €1 billion of loans which were in arrears.

As to how much the arrears on those €1 billion in loans amount to, well, RTE didn’t say.

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is proud to present the Irish premiere of Adam Shapiro’s The Return of Talk. This important film explores the relationship of leadership and representation among Palestinians, notably Palestinian refugees. Giving air to both historical context and debate over future strategy, the film is a comprehensive look at the meaning of political leadership for a people who face exile, occupation and ongoing dispossession. With the recent debate over the Palestinian UN Statehood bid, this film is a timely combination of grassroots, activist and elite perspectives on the history and strategy of the Palestinian national movement.
