  • Come to the National Forum!

Fianna Fail and their cronies in big business have wrecked the country. However, Fine Gael and Labour have shown that they represent more of the same. As much as they try to blame the old government for the crisis, they are responsible for continuing the disastrous bailouts and have promised further... Read→

Who are the ULA?

We are an alliance of left wing groups and individuals for the next general election. The Alliance is opposed to the governments’ bailouts and the slash and burn policies which are only making the crisis worse. In the general election we aim to provide a real alternative to the establishment parties as well as Labour and Sinn Fein, who also accept the capitalist market and refuse to rule out coalition with right wing parties. The approach of a Fine Gael / Labour government in power would not be fundamentally different than this government.

The ULA will be standing candidates throughout the country and we are inviting all people, campaigns and groups that want to fight for real change and who agree with our demands to become part of the Alliance.

What do you stand for?

We reject the so-called solutions to the economic crises based on slashing public expenditure, welfare payments and workers’ pay. There can be no just or sustainable solution to the crisis based on the capitalist market. Instead we favour democratic and public control over resources so that social need is prioritised over profit.

Those elected as part of the alliance will not do any deals or support any coalition with any of the right wing parties particularly Fianna Fail and Fine Gael. We are committed to building a mass left alternative to unite working people, whether public or private sector, Irish or migrant, with the unemployed, welfare recipients, pensioners and students in the struggle to change society.

How can I get involved?

The alliance is open to any individuals who want to get involved, and help build a strong left challenge for the next general elections. To get involved, simply click here, fill in the form and one of our organisers will be in contact. Or to contact the alliance for more information, check out the contact us section here.

The United Left Alliance TDs, Richard Boyd Barrett, Joan Collins, Clare Daly, Seamus Healy and Joe Higgins are calling for a ‘No’ vote in next week’s Dáil Inquiries Referendum. The need for an efficient, fair and transparent system for holding inquiries that throws a light on the workings of the state and its agencies, including the Gardaí as well as how the rich and powerful operate in this country and where appropriate bring out evidence and findings that could be used to prosecute wrongdoing is not contested by the United Left Alliance. The Tribunals of Inquiry we have seen... Read→

  • Write down mortgages in negative equity to true value of the homes

    By admin on August - 31 - 2011

Responding to the debate on debt forgiveness for people in difficulty with their mortgages Joan Collins TD (People Before Profit/United Left Alliance Dublin South Central) said: “The response from the government to the growing calls for debt forgiveness for people in difficulties with their mortgage is scandalously inadequate. Appeals to the banks to look kindly upon people who cannot meet their monthly payments through no fault of their own is no way to address a problem affecting tens of thousands of households. “With that in mind the United Left Alliance initiated a campaign on the... Read→

  • Come to the National Forum!

Fianna Fail and their cronies in big business have wrecked the country. However, Fine Gael and Labour have shown that they represent more of the same. As much as they try to blame the old government for the crisis, they are responsible for continuing the disastrous bailouts and have promised further unfair taxes, privatisations and cuts in jobs and public services. The United Left Alliance, which was launched last November, made a significant breakthrough with five TDs elected in February. The attacks of this government and the role of Labour in particular poses more starkly than ever the need... Read→
