The 2003 invasion of Iraq lasted from 20 March to 1 May 2003 and signaled the start of the Iraq War, which was dubbed Operation Iraqi Freedom by the United States (prior to 19 March, the mission in Iraq was called Operation Enduring Freedom, a carryover from the War in Afghanistan). The invasion consisted of 21 days of major combat operations, in which a combined force of troops from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Poland invaded Iraq and deposed the Ba'athist government of Saddam Hussein. The invasion phase consisted primarily of a conventionally fought war which concluded with the capture of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad by American forces.
160,000 troops were sent by the Coalition into Iraq, during the initial invasion phase, which lasted from 19 March to 9 April 2003. About 130,000 were sent from the USA alone, with about 28,000 British Soldiers, Australia (2,000), and Poland (194). 36 other countries were involved in its aftermath. In preparation for the invasion, 100,000 U.S. troops were assembled in Kuwait by 18 February. The coalition forces also received support from Kurdish irregulars in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The 2008 Turkish incursion into northern Iraq, code-named Operation Sun (Turkish: Güneş Harekatı) by the Turkish Armed Forces, began on February 21, 2008, when the Turkish Army sent troops into northern Iraq to target the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The ground offensive was preceded by Turkish Air Force aerial bombardments against PKK camps in northern Iraq, which began on December 16, 2007. This constituted the "first confirmed ground incursion" of Iraq since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
Initial reports indicated that up to 10,000 troops had taken part in the operation, while later reports indicated just several hundred.
In October 2007, Turkish jets and ground forces clashed with PKK forces in Turkey and over the border into northern Iraq.
Turkey launched its first cross-border raid on December 16, 2007, involving 50 fighter jets. A Turkish military statement said that up to 175 militants were killed on that day alone, while Iraqi officials reported that the strikes had targeted 10 villages and killed one civilian. The PKK reported seven deaths.
A dispute exists over the "legitimacy" of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The debate centers around the question whether the invasion was an unprovoked assault on an independent country that may have breached international law, or if the United Nations Security Council authorized the invasion (whether the conditions set in place after the Gulf War allowed the resumption if Iraq did not uphold to the Security Council resolutions). Those arguing for its legitimacy often point to Congressional Joint Resolution 114 and UN Security Council resolutions, such as Resolution 1441 and Resolution 678. Those arguing against its legitimacy also cite some of the same sources, stating they do not actually permit war but instead lay out conditions that must be met before war can be declared. Furthermore, the Security Council may only authorise the use of force against an "aggressor" in the interests of preserving peace, whereas the 2003 invasion of Iraq was not provoked by any aggressive military action.

Iraq (/ɪˈræk/, i/ɪˈrɑːk/, or /aɪˈræk/; Arabic: العراق al-‘Irāq, Kurdish: Êraq), officially the Republic of Iraq (Arabic:
جمهورية العراق Jumhūrīyat al-‘Irāq; Kurdish: كۆماری عێراق Komar-i ‘Êraq), is a country in Western Asia. The country borders Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the southwest, and Syria to the west. The southern part of Iraq is within the Arabian Peninsula. The capital, Baghdad, is in the centre of the country and its largest city. The largest ethnic groups in Iraq are Arabs and Kurds. Other ethnic groups include Assyrians, Turkmen, Shabakis, Yazidis, Armenians, Mandeans, Circassians, and Kawliya. Around 95% of the country's 36 million citizens are Shia or Sunni Muslims, with Christianity, Yarsan, Yezidism, and Mandeanism also present.
Iraq has a narrow section of coastline measuring 58 km (36 mi) on the northern Persian Gulf and its territory encompasses the Mesopotamian Alluvial Plain, the northwestern end of the Zagros mountain range, and the eastern part of the Syrian Desert. Two major rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, run south through the centre of Iraq and flow into the Shatt al-Arab near the Persian Gulf. These rivers provide Iraq with significant amounts of fertile land.
The Kingdom of Iraq under British Administration or Mandatory Iraq (Arabic: الانتداب البريطاني على العراق al-Intidāb al-Brīṭānī ‘Alá al-‘Irāq) was created in 1921 following the 1920 Iraqi Revolt against the proposed British Mandate of Mesopotamia, and enacted via the 1922 Anglo-Iraqi Treaty.
Faisal ibn Husayn, who had been proclaimed King of Syria by a Syrian National Congress in Damascus in March 1920, was ejected by the French in July of the same year. Faisal was then granted by the British the territory of Iraq, to rule it as a kingdom, with the British Royal Air Force (RAF) retaining certain military control, though de facto; the territory remained under British administration until 1932.
The civil government of postwar Iraq was headed originally by the High Commissioner, Sir Percy Cox, and his deputy, Colonel Arnold Wilson. British reprisals after the murder of a British officer in Najaf failed to restore order. The most striking problem facing the British was the growing anger of the nationalists, who continued to fight against the imposition of British authority. British administration had yet to be established in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Mesopotamia (/ˌmɛsəpəˈteɪmiə/, from the Ancient Greek: Μεσοποταμία "[land] between rivers"; from Ancient Armenian՝ Միջագետք(Mijagetq), Arabic: بلاد الرافدين bilād ar-rāfidayn; Persian: میانرودان miyān rodān; Syriac: ܒܝܬ ܢܗܪܝܢ Beth Nahrain "land of rivers") is a name for the area of the Tigris–Euphrates river system, roughly corresponding to modern-day Iraq, Syria and Kuwait, including regions along the Turkish-Syrian and Iran–Iraq borders.
Widely considered to be the one of the cradles of civilization by the Western world, Bronze Age Mesopotamia included Sumer and the Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian empires, all native to the territory of modern-day Iraq. In the Iron Age, it was controlled by the Neo-Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian Empires.
The indigenous Sumerians and Akkadians (including Assyrians and Babylonians) dominated Mesopotamia from the beginning of written history (c. 3100 BC) to the fall of Babylon in 539 BC, when it was conquered by the Achaemenid Empire. It fell to Alexander the Great in 332 BC, and after his death, it became part of the Greek Seleucid Empire.
On 21 March 2003, ITN's John Irvine reported from the Iraqi capital of Baghdad as the "shock and awe" phase of the US-led air campaign got underway. While the US bombardment of Baghdad had begun on 19 March, this had in fact consisted of relatively limited strikes targetting Saddam Hussein, senior regime officials, and other specific targets. At 17:00 UTC on 21 March, the air campaign moved into the next phase. In one night, 504 cruise missiles were launched at Baghdad's government district. The pictures captured by ITN's cameras that night are to this day considered defining images of the 2003 invasion and the Iraq War as a whole. #Iraq #IraqWar #ShockAndAwe #Baghdad #WarOnTerror #Conflict To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: https://www.gettyimages.c...
What caused the Iraq War in 2003? The simple answer is 9/11. In this episode of IWM Stories, Chris Cooper explores the timeline of events that led from the 9/11 terror attacks to US President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair invading Saddam Hussein's Iraq. From Saddam's use of chemical and biological weapons during the Iran-Iraq War to the First Gulf War in 1991 and from the 9/11 terror attacks to UN weapons inspections the Iraq War has a long and complicated history that goes far beyond oil and weapons of mass destruction. When thousands of United States troops from Georgia’s Fort Stewart and Fort Benning invaded Iraq on March 19, 2003, one was an Army specialist with a camcorder, Robert Ayres. Ayres was an infantryman deployed at a makeshift camp in the Kuwaiti desert a few weeks earlier called Camp Pennsylvania. As Army troops ramped up to cross the nearby Iraqi border, he trained his camcorder on some of his comrades-in-arms. The Turkish incursion into northern Iraq is entering its sixth day amid claims and counter-claims of violence. The Turkish military says it's killed more than 150 Kurdish rebels since crossing the border on Thurday. But the PKK rejects the casualty figures and has warned Turkey it has entered a conflict it cannot win. Many of Turkey's Kurds are also growing increasingly frustrated. Our correspondent, Hoda Abdel Hamid, went to the southeastern town of Diyarbakir where she found growing support for the PKK. But first, James Bays is on the Iraqi side of the border where he was given exclusive access to a town caught in the middle of the conflict.

Creation's groaning, lost their hope and feel they always closed in Lots to
cope with, on the ropes, wish they was in the open This broken world is so
dim, our souls are searching, groping For one with hope to hold us close,
and set goodness in motion I remember growing up in Dallas, I thought me
and my close kin Was more than straight, our folks was great, not broke
that paper flowed in Not boasting man, just saying in my brain I didn't
know then That all went wrong, and it just can't go right like a broke pen
My mind was blind and cloaked in, but then that foolishness departed I saw
this thing's an ocean, and we just tryna swim real far but But can't nobody
float when we ain't got boats or no fins We need a hero to go in, cause our
solutions don't win Education can't fix it, more dough just leads to more
sin Medicine is temporary, government seems so thin With all these weighty
problems, that ain't shrinking they just growing Who's adequate to save us,
how about He knew no sin?
Like a G5 yeah you rushed to rescue me Took a cross in exchange for a crown
to save me You began the work and I know you'll finish And make all things
right when you come back Cause you're my hero, you already saved the day
Cause you're my hero, and I know you're coming back for me
Follow the steps bro, Adam sinned now we all dead so We gotta sentence on
our head like death row, everything is wrecked All creation is a mess bro,
In the fullness of time, in steps the hero no red cloak, He's Jesus No
flashing lights, glitz n glam, and no cameras He came to serve needy folks,
and point them to the answer You see Him healing, feeding folks, and
telling them the standard Our most basic need is to be ransomed by Jesus It
has first place, yeah we separated in the worst ways Even physically peep
how the earth quakes Separated socially, murder and the worst rapes Even
separated from ourselves, we in the worst state It's so major, that's the
reason that we need a Savior Cause the root of needs is separation from
Creator Jesus came humbly to restore us to our maker And later He'll
restore all that He made bruh, He's Jesus
God is not pleased man, it's clear that His standards missed The world is
running rampant with, sin it's an abandonment Man is feeling stranded,
feeling hopeless since his banishment God is angry at the distortion and
the mismanagement Evil is at work, but don't be thinking He can't handle it
He promised He would do away with all of it, dismantle it He's put up with
this damage in His world, but He's promised us That He'll destroy all His
enemies and then He'll walk with us New Heaven, new Earth that's where all
His sheep dwell Cause Jesus succeeded in every part of life that we failed
Died the death we couldn't die, paid our price with 3 nails Began the work
He promised, in the end we all will be well Already beat his enemies and
when His Kingdom's realized All those who oppose Him will see Jesus with
some real eyes Deliverance is offered us, the hero He is urging us
Salvation is exclusive to His people who have turned to trust
I give my gratitude (Jesus). You died to make all things new. My knight in
armour when our world is fallen. Your love's never failing. I find safety
