Occupy Wall Street
The Occupy Wall Street movement is an important grass roots coalition which aims to speak in the voice of the "many" embittered Americans. The disaffected, mostly youthful, protesters argue that the banks and Wall Street have consolidated so much capital and power that human beings no longer matter in this society. The organizers made the decision to march on, and to occupy, Wall Street, to bring attention to the fact that 1% of the population controls the resources of the other 99%. This disparity in resources, finances and jobs, which has begun to be felt viscerally in the middle class, has been a reality in, and disproportionately affecting, communities of color for some time now.

Tim Wise on White Privilege DVD

Tim Wise: On White Privilege

For years, acclaimed author and speaker Tim Wise has been electrifying audiences with his deeply personal take on whiteness and white privilege. In this spellbinding lecture, he offers a unique, inside-out view of race and racism in America. Expertly overcoming the defensiveness that often surrounds these issues, Wise provides a non-confrontational explanation of white privilege and the damage it does not only to people of color, but to white people as well. An ideal introduction to the social construction of racial identities, and a critical new tool for exploring the often invoked - but seldom explained - concept of white privilege. This DVD can be yours for a donation to WBAI of $50 (this includes shipping).
