An article under this title, by Martin Kemp and Eliana Pinto, was published in Therapy Today earlier in March 2009. Following complaints, it was temporarily withdrawn from the website but after reflection it was reinstated with a disclaimer that : ‘The article does not represent the views of Therapy Today or BACP which has no [...]
Al Jazeera reports… Just a day after promising to be a partner for peace with the Palestinians, Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister-designate, appears to be preparing to build Israeli settlements on more West Bank land. Israeli media is reporting that Netanyahu has struck a secret deal with his coaltion partner – the far right Yisrael [...]
This project reports on life as experienced by men, women and children in Gaza (Palestine) and Sderot (Israel): their lives and their survival on a daily basis. Under difficult living conditions and the threat of air attacks and bombings, people do keep on working, loving and dreaming. Life in spite of everything.
Dov Khenin is a member of Israel’s parliament (the Knesset) representing Hadash, the alliance led by the Communist Party of Israel. This interview has been posted at Links International Journal of Socialist Renewal with permission, in the interests of informing our readers of all shades of left opinion in occupied Palestine.
Hebron and the surrounding hills to the south have been the epicenter of hard-core ideological Zionist settlement activity for some years. Central Hebron is a tragic, hate-filled, militarized zone, full of poverty, burned-out buildings, rubble and a pervasive misery. The atmosphere is oppressive and there is palpable tension especially around the old city. The cruel face of modern Zionism is here in stark relief.
The addition of the Labor Party solves everybody’s problem. If the social democrats are joining the government, all this talk of fascism must be nonsense. Obviously, Liberman has been misunderstood. He has been misrepresented. He is not a fascist at all, God forbid. He is not a racist. He is just a traditional right-wing demagogue who exploits the primitive emotions of the masses to garner votes. Which elected politician could object to that?
A legal battle being waged by Palestinian families to stop the takeover of their neighbourhood in East Jerusalem by Jewish settlers has received a major fillip from the recent souring of relations between Israel and Turkey. After the Israeli army’s assault on the Gaza Strip in January, lawyers for the families were given access to Ottoman land registry archives in Ankara for the first time, providing what they say is proof that title deeds produced by the settlers are forged.
Plaid Cymru MEP Jill Evans was one of a five strong delegation from the European Parliament sent to report on the humanitarian situation in Gaza following the twenty two days of Israeli bombing. Jill represents the whole of Wales in the European Parliament. “As the new year dawned, like thousands of others, I watched in [...]
An unauthorised settlement in the West Bank, illegal even under Israeli law, appears to be benefiting from state funding, the BBC has uncovered.
A great advert shown recently on Israeli TV
Your article about Tristan Anderson (24 March) brought back strong memories of when my son Tom Hurndall was shot in Gaza in 2003. My heart goes out to Tristan Anderson’s parents, for I remember clearly how it was in the days after Tom was shot by an Israeli sniper in Rafah while rescuing Palestinian children.
In January 2007, B’Tselem launched it’s camera distribution project, a video advocacy project focusing on the Occupied Territories. We provide Palestinians living in high-conflict areas with video cameras, with the goal of bringing the reality of their lives under occupation to the attention of the Israeli and international public, exposing and seeking redress for violations of human rights.
I am Sahar Vardi. I am 18 years old, a senior in high school in Israel. As you probably know, all Israelis must serve in the Israeli Defense Forces, starting right after our last year of high school. I and dozens of other students, on examining our values, International Law, and what we believe is best for Israel, refused to serve in the Occupied Territories and be a part of a mechanism that suppresses millions of Palestinians.
69 percent of American Jews support the U.S. working with a unified Hamas-Fatah Palestinian Authority government to achieve a peace agreement with Israel, even when informed that the U.S. does not recognize Hamas due to its status as a terrorist organization and its refusal to recognize Israel. Interestingly, a March poll conducted by the Truman Institute at Hebrew University reported that 69 percent of Israelis also think Israel should negotiate with a joint Hamas-Fatah government
Wednesday, March 25, 2009 – A new report on Rafah Crossing and the parties involved in its closure was published today by Gisha – Legal Center for Freedom of Movement and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel (PHR-Israel). The report “Rafah Crossing: Who Holds the Keys?” dispels the fog concerning responsibility for Rafah Crossing, answering the question, who is really responsible for the closure of Rafah Crossing – and therefore for the violation of the rights of Gaza residents.
4,000 participants will put this event into the Guinness Book of Records for the most people running a relay in 24 hours, and raise £400,000 for Save the Children’s projects in Gaza at the same time. JfJfP signatories and supporters are invited to take part – you should be willing to run 100 metres in about 20 seconds and raise £100 for Save the Children in Gaza.
The new report, published today [23 March] by Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, gives room for concern that during the operation in Gaza, Israeli soldiers repeatedly acted in violation of the army’s code of ethics, the medical code of ethics, and basic human values. These actions suggest repeated violations of the International Law regarding the treatment of the ill and the wounded and the protection of medical personnel.
‘The publication late last week of eyewitness accounts by Israeli soldiers alleging acute mistreatment of Palestinian civilians in the recent Gaza fighting highlights a debate here about the rules of war. But it also exposes something else: the clash between secular liberals and religious nationalists for control over the army and society… ‘A soldier, identified by [...]
ROOMS Productions’ Chicago Premiere of Caryl Churchill’s newest piece commenting on current events between Israel and Gaza.
Plus the full text and links to various discussions about the play.
The Guardian [24 March 2009] has published detailed evidence of alleged war crimes committed by Israel during the 23-day offensive in the Gaza Strip earlier this year, involving the use of Palestinian children as human shields and the targeting of medics and hospitals.
