Lovely Friday
Chocolate Fuelled

I’ve had a great day! I achieved everything I wanted to work-wise, I have eaten well, my leg is much better, and I booked us a holiday and this weekend away! We have been discussing for a while now how we can’t afford to go skiing this year – we normally go the first week in January, which is the cheapest week of the season, but we can’t afford it. No use debating it – we just don’t have that much spare money, and neither of us are borrowers, so that’s that. But the prospect of doing nothing over Christmas and New Year is a bit depressing – so we went in search of something we can afford. The place we went to in September has a nice pub that has self catering apartments – we checked and they have a refurbished one available Christmas week for just £300 for the week. I rang them and booked it! So we go away the Friday before Christmas and come back the Friday before New Year. So excited! It’s going to be great! We can walk and

I have been writing music since I was 13/14-ish and every so often I find some time to write. Here is a little gem I wrote and am in the middle of recording out here. I write in code, so whatever it means to you is what it means… enjoi   Building this mess, yeah i’m building this life, building this mess, yeah it’s for my wife, building from sticks, and great big stones, I’m building a life I don’t yet know, yet know building this house, yeah, i’m buildin’ it right, putting it down, in the kentucky-tennessee divide, making the plans up as I go, hoping for things written in stone, in stone. Making big plans yeah i’m seeing the South, the Smokey mountains, I’ll inhale the sights and the sounds, the cold is comin’ and I’m freezin’ to the bone, I’ll fly out west where my family is from, All my friends have borrowed my boards, no surfing now, they’re either broken or gone, gone. Cabana’s de Gigante
Simonmcewen's Weblog

There are places you don’t write reviews about. You don’t write them because the review might cause more people to go, and then it won’t be what you wrote about. Surfing was the first adventure sport. And it invented the idea of the secret location. But what if you are a struggling Nicaraguan, with all your savings invested in a two room hotel. A single mum that needs to catch a bus for four hours to medical care through the dust and heat, when your daughter is sick. Who when she is isn’t sick, which she almost always isn’t, is more welcoming and relaxed than a person seems to have a right to be. This is the place you really want to go to if you are surfing in Nicaragua. The town of Gigante, the wave Colorado, the restaurant Mare Mar, and Bimania’s little hotel, Cabana’s de Gigante. Google the wave. This is the town near it, not the gringo ghetto in front. The rooms are comfy, private, secure and air conditioned. Lobster dinner’s you can

The Undead Surf!
El Surfeador

Zombies are pretty prolific these days. You can’t watch TV or pick up a book without stumbling upon a rotting undead ghoul. And you know what? It’s utterly fantastic. I’m not sure what it is I like so much about the whole zombie thing; maybe it’s the survivalist aspect, or the idea of exploring an apocalyptic society (no Road Warrior getup for me, thank you very much), but whatever it is… I really find the current zombie trend really entertaining. So, after watching a rousing episode of The Walking Dead — which one again reaffirmed my belief that there can never be too much gore on television — I decided to check the Web to see if the zombie epidemic had spread to the surfing community. Turns out… it has. Here’s what I found: Zombie Surf Rock These boys are from the rather appropriately named Surf Zombies. “High Rip” isn’t half bad, and the subtle double meaning behind the title is actually kind of funny. Get it? Rip vs. RIP? Yeah… it took me most of the night to figu

Good J.O.B.?
surfinglines

This is my own personal critique of Jamie O’s post France Power Rankings. And who am I to critique J.O.B.? I am the everyman. I am webcast land. I am the truly independent observer. I am everyone and no-one.  (In truth it’s on the fucking internet so opinion belongs to all of us.)  J.O.B. might (definitely) surf better than me but I can watch a webcast just as well as he can. So without further ado, here is J.O.B.s Top 10, in my words. I welcome you to expound your own opinions and I embrace both praise and vitriol as equals.  No. 1 – Kelly I’m fairly ok with this assessment of Kelly, with the exception of the references to “containment”, “safety” and “not at full throttle”. Are you fricking kidding me? How much harder do you want him to push? Did you sleep through his destruction of the field at Teahupo’o/NY/Trestles? Kelly is consistently busting out air attempts that could lead to serious injury/board breakages whethe

Christmas/New Years vacation..Costa Rica?
crvacationrentals

There are still several Costa Rica villas available for the holidays weeks. Costa Rica is a great choice for vacation…sun, sand, rainforest, fishing, surfing, wildlife, active volcanos, ziplining, rappelling, kayaking, whitewater, hiking, biking…I’m tired just writing about it all. Villa Vista Precosia is a 7 bed/bath oceanview villa in Ocotal. http://www.crvacationrentals.com/villa_vista_precoisa.htm $239 pp/night includes all meals, open bar and staff. 12 adult minimum. Only 30 minutes from Liberia airport.

Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report: 10.20.11 – Feels like Fall. Surf is up…so is the wind.

Outer Banks: 10.20.11 - Feels Like Fall in Kitty Hawk Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Thursday, October 20, 2011. This video was shot at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk at 9:00 AM. It’s a pretty day, but it’s starting to feel like fall. Temps have cooled from the mid 70′s earlier in the week to the mid 60′s today with a strong wind out of the southwest at 20 mph. Definite hoodie weather! Looking at the 10 day forecast, we’ve got nothing but sun ahead, but the fall coolness seems like it’s here to stay…temps hovering in the 60′s for the foreseeable future. Water temps are still at almost 70 degrees. Warmer in the water than on the beach today! We have some decent surf today, but that wind sure is blowing. There chest high surf, but the 20 mph west wind is blowing the tops off the waves…and adding to the chill factor. The swell will be fading throughout the day, but the good

Today’s Music: The Wombats Haven’t posted in a few days. Just thought I’d throw out some of what’s going on. Music - The Wombats are again Today’s music. I had tickets to see them last night. Couldn’t make it. A little grumpy about that. Health - The sick relative has been moved to a post-op facility and is getting better. Doesn’t mean they are good yet, just not quite as bad. That means that instead of trekking out to Long island every night and on weekends, I will be hauling to the wilds of Queens. On the bright side, there is the chance of a good restaurant nearby, so that’s something anyway. And my wife (most wonderful girl in the universe) is getting over a cold* that only lasted 2 days. For her, that is ridiculously short. And there was only a minimum of chasing her under the blankets or up to bed. (mostly because I’m exhausted and probably just barely holding off a cold myself). *Her being sick and me almost being sick has no
