Savannah: gorgeous in Georgia
Fiona's travels

The Williams-Mercer House Savannah is a beautiful drinking town. It is just about the only southern city that escaped the civil war unscathed – so it’s heralded as a prime example of antebellum architecture. [Antebellum = before the (civil) war.] This means it still has the original grand houses with their broad porches, big shutters and sweeping roofs. Taking a stroll through the historic area is an exercise in gawping: every so often you simply have to stop and stare. The city was built to an unusual plan that includes small garden squares every few blocks. When the sun is beating down, these shaded spots bring great relief. Even in early September, when the temperature had started to cool, the shade was welcome. So how did Savannah escape the destruction suffered by so many other cities? When the Union forces approached, the Confederates offered to surrender on the condition that Savannah was left untouched. General Sherman looked at the beautiful city and agreed. He was

Memahami Cloud Computing
megadigi

Noticeably Absent….
the disgruntled architect

Okay, so I have been absent recently.  I think I fell into the abyss of lack of motivation and inspiration.  Architects find themselves in this dark hole frequently when a project is in CA; our creative drive is eaten up in the process of reviewing RFIs and Submittals.  Something about reviewing metal fabrications for color and size has just sucked the life out of me, leaving me with no other option than sitting on my couch night after night contemplating writing a blog entry or watching NCIS re-runs.  And yes, I chose NCIS; don’t judge me, it’s a good show.  I am beginning to have dreams where I am stuck in Newforma, it’s not a good state of affairs. So, as I re-enter the world of blogging snarky disgruntledness, I thought I would leave you with this poster.  I agree with it’s sentiment, except the working for free part….I would not do that.  :)  Happy Monday! I visited Troy for the first time in about 10 years over the weekend.  The campus has changed drastically.  While I was there, I had some time to pop off a few pictures.  Enjoy! -The Soundmonkey Taj ma-Hawk The new Troy Trojan mascot artwork Troy Trojan statue on the quad New dining hall A Thinker, don't think it's THE Thinker.

Driving to Rock Hill, SC…
WatchingThePhotoReelsGoRoundAndRound...

Two-Way Road View. Polly Nance. Digital photograph. 8 x 10 inches. I took these photographs on the drive to Rock Hill, SC and the USDGC. I know I could have posted this post before all the tournament photographs, but my husband was dying for me to get those action shots on the blog. And so, I post them now! Awhile back, I posted some similar photographs (to and from McDonough, GA), but that was when I was just beginning to learn how to operate my camera manually. Desiring to become comfortable in manual before the disc golf tournament, I took photographs for the last hour and a half of the drive. Photographers have always told me to take more photographs and more photographs and more photographs. And yes, I know I take that advice very seriously, but I didn’t want to fool around with not knowing what to do while photographing the golfers. You aren’t supposed to press the shutter button until after the disc has been released from the hand, so that the click noise won’t

Elise elsacker + yannick bontinckx’ kinetic pavilion
winterlab

a student of mine passed along this great video of two belgian architecture students’ research project. there seems to be two different projects rolled into one here- the first is a workflow using ecotect data (solar analysis of a specific site) to drive grasshopper (parametric design software) to drive a robotic model of a pavilion. the columns are able to change heights, based off of the solar information, so if the sun is coming at a specific angle, the pavilion adjusts to block the sun from that angle. the other project is with the same pavilion, but the form is human controlled with a tablet. it looks like the tablet is being run through rhino at the least, if not grasshopper and firefly as well, but it’s pretty incredible to see the user draw on the tablet and see the model update.

Johor Bahru, Oct’11; Sharing photos of the long forgotten JB Waterfront / Lot 1. As our observation, this mall can be a future going place in JB as there is a major revolution in Danga Bay and Pantai Lido. <img style="background-image:none;border-bottom:0;border-left:0;padding-left:0;padding-right:0;display:inline;border-top:0;border-right:0;padding-top:0;margin:0 0 15px;" title="P1020028" border="0" alt="P1020028" src="http://super325.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/p1020028_thumb.jpg" width="
