Wow.

Just, wow.

Congrats to everyone in the by-election team, and to Lindsay Roy, the new MP for Glenrothes.

Again, wow.

By ‘everyone’ I take it you mean every English tax payer who ,despite being treated as democratic and fiscal second class citizens, have generously saved the Scottish financial sector (of which the sweaties were so inordinately proud ).
With Iceland leading the dance in the circle of insolvency Salmon’s argument is shot . I was surprised not to see more of this in the Press , it struck me as an obvious knock on effect. So it has proved .
This raises the possibility of ruling England with a large loss in the popular vote there again. Interesting

At the moment people seem to accept the argument that Brown and Labour have weakened the economy . You agreed yourself that Growth was sacrificed for “fairness” as you would put it . On the other hand they think he is well qualified to handle a mess even if it is partly of his own making . I have come to the conclusion that the period of being understandable caution on tax cuts has now gone and with we should be sharing the proceeds of ‘debt ‘ instead of growth a little more towards the productive population.

Meanwhile my clients are starting to go out of business in the real world. This may change things

While Paul Murphy is many ways a great man, I think it is probably Jim Murphy who will take the plaudits for this one around the cabinet table.

One thought: people often say that too many politicians have no outside experience. It strikes me that Jim Murphy is an example of the fact that too may politicians don’t have enough experience of being politicians.

Most of the leaders of all parties have a similar CV – university, parliamentary researcher, SPAD, lobbyist, think tank, safe seat, frontbench. They have spent a of of time around politics but not much actually being politicians.

Jim Murphy on the other hand came up through the swamp of scottish labout and student politics. Spent five years standing for various crappy posts and getting himself elected – mostly by stitching them up and destroying trots without mercy (a necessary if distasteful task).

The result is that I would much rather have Jim Murphy in a foxhole with me, even if I would prefer to have Andy Burnham in an office making the tea.

At the moment there are too many Andy Burnhams (charming and lovely as he is) and too few Jim Murphys (brutally effective as he is).

Newmainia, i dunno, did all those english taxpayers deliver leaflets?

Jim Murphy is a fine man indeed, and minced up la Sturgeon in the TV election show.

Excellent mid term result. Should we pass around a hat for the Tory and LibDem deposits?

PS I thought Newmania had promised to go away and spend more time with his bank statements? As with that Andrew Lloyd Webber promise to leave the country if Labour won in 1997 (which must have gained us hundreds of thousands of votes) you just can’t trust these right-wingers to stick to their word…

Quite funny Andrew Lloyd Webber threatened to leave the country. I remember seeing him being interviewed in the last couple of years admitting he found himself voting with the government more than with the Tories.
