Notes From The Bunker
Let me start this off by saying that MrGrooves still needs to get in contact with me to pick up his Hearts of Iron the Card Game promo cards.

That being said, I promised last time that I’d make a sojourn outside of the bunker, if only for a little while. In the week since I last posted, I’ve been troubled by ruminations that General_SOKOL’s off topic remarks in the HOICCG Contest Winners Thread may have some bearing on reality.

"...commies took over the world. They even conquered (intellectually) USA (now: United Soviet America). That's the reason of crisis….

Game is not going to change fact that USA is Chinese poodle now, and employs communist ideology abroad and internally and is feeding Chinese communist party with money and technology at expense of hardest working and poorest US citizens. Game does not change the fact that USA itself became a communist country (and therefore got conquered by commies) because it widely employs communist ideology when it comes to employment even of well qualified workers and commerce and business practices. USA is a communist country but calls itself a capitalist country with no ****ing reason other than brainwashing game of the words propaganda for benefit of rich people (read Ludwig Wittgenstein about game of the words to understand what I mean)."

Fearing that General_SOKOL may be correct, I decided to head over to Fort Smith, Arkansas to visit the Hanging Judge Gun & Knife Show and see if free enterprise still existed within the so-called United States of America.

The Hanging Judge gun show was slightly disappointing. First off, they had a lot of the cowboy stuff that doesn’t really interest me. Second, they didn’t have the stereotypical old guy with the quasi pro Nazi sympathies selling Hitler Youth knives. The closest you got to that stereotype was someone selling some Confederate Flag patches, but you can find that kind of thing in just about any random gas station in Occupied Dixie. Maybe the old Nazi types have been run off by the communists? I can tell you that the dealers were selling a lot of commie weapons and even a Budenovka! Perhaps General_SOKOL was correct all along…. I was going to pick up the Budenovka and send it to him as proof of his theories, but he might take such a gesture the wrong way.

On the return trip I had to stop by the Cracker Barrel, just to escape from the bastion of Communism that was the Hanging Judge Gun & Knife show. The Cracker Barrel promised a folksy, non- communist Americana atmosphere and decidedly non communist food. It was there that I discovered the most challenging strategy game in existence: the Cracker Barrel Peg game! Unfortunately, to my dismay, I found that the peg game was made in China. Truly, the communists have undermined every aspect of American society just as Antonio Gramsci planned!

Given the Communist takeover of the USA, I may have to keep hiding in the bunker, but I have plans for a little feature for you for around this time next week which might require some additional traveling. In the meantime, here are some random pictures from the Gun and Knife Show.

Leisure Suit Larry Remakes Coming With Al Lowe's Support
- 8 Comments
EGM got the scoop on some big news in the adventure game scene. Former Sierra On-Line employee Paul Trowe finally secured the rights to the Leisure Suit Larry games for his development studio Replay Games. After getting the rights, Trowe reached out to former co-worker and Larry creator Lowe. Once he got back in touch with the old bean he managed to get not only Lowe's blessing, but also his involvement in bringing Larry to the modern era. Here's a snip from the announcement at EGM:

Replay Games founder and CEO Paul Trowe, and series creator Al Lowe, are teaming up to re-introducing gaming’s favorite lovable loser Larry.

The first project under the agreement will be an HD re-mastered version of the original, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, on every platform Replay can figure out how to port it onto, including: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, XBLA, PSN, On-Live, Steam. We’re pretty sure if an Atari 2600 enthusiast group got enough members to sign a petition, Lowe would personally code a version for them.

Should the re-make prove successful, the team is set to tackle the rest of the original series, games two-through-seven. Sadly, EGM has confirmed that the content for game four, Leisure Suite Larry 4: The Missing Floppies remains missing. However, Lowe won’t let that keep him from re-mastering it to Leisure Suite Larry 4: The Missing Digital Download HD.

The remakes will feature upgraded visuals, sound and control, while retaining the games’ signature puzzles and sense of humor.

The article also mentions that brand new Larry games are also a possibility after the remakes are taken care of. Given Lowe's involvement, it all sounds very promising.

Preorder Afterfall: InSanity for $1
Polish Developer Nicolas Entertainment Group is offering their upcoming Unreal Engine 3 Horror Shooter , Afterfall: InSanity for $1. The catch is that you’ll only get the game if they manage to sell 10 million preorders. If they fail to hit that magic number, then the amount raised will go to charity (though you will get a one dollar discount off the game’s price). If they hit that number, then 10 million plus people are going to get the game for one dollar, ten percent of that money will go to charity, and a small Polish developer will have pulled off quite a coup. Read below for a video on why and a trailer for Afterfall: InSanity. Thanks to Blue’s News for the heads up on this one.

New Screens For Heroes And Generals
Here are some screenshots from Heroes and Generals, the FPS/RTS hybrid that Rose posted an article about over the weekend. My understanding of HAG is that good players at the FPS level will eventually get to be commanders and play the game at more of an RTS level. Could be cool, but I'd like to start at the RTS level and lead cursed players to their doom with poorly considered offensives. Regardless, here are some new screenshots.

The Morning Juberish
Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful that the migraine I had last week only lasted a day, and that the stroke I thought I was going to have never materialized. Hey, who all dries their ears with their clean underwear after they get out of the shower? Show of hands, please.

So, summer decided to come back for the weekend. On Friday I spent a good 10 minutes running from a wasp. Most exercise I've had in years. Sucked. Made up for it by stopping at McDonald's on the way home.

It's a two video kind of day. Have a good one!
