This is your gateway to easily message all your members of Congress through Twitter.
It is totally free, and we will NEVER have to ask for your Twitter password!
All we ask is that you follow cxs on Twitter,
so we can send you privately the encrypted link
you will need to activate this page, to set up the contact info for delivery of your messages. If you aren't already
following us, you will get a message in your own replies section asking you to do so for this purpose,
Then here's how it works: all you have to do is
send a reply to @cxs from your Twitter update box,
and make sure to include in your message an issue tag word (for example #health),
from the list to the left under the capitol dome. If you have already set up your contact
information (as required by them) below, your message will be delivered to both of your U.S. Senators and
your House member. You can elect to get an acknowledgment when this happens, or not.
If this is your first time, we will send you a private,
direct message with a special 48 hour link to automatically log you in on this page.
Then just enter your contact information
using the form below, and it's good for you to use again until you change it, and
you will also have a chance to review your first queued message.
To further protect your privacy (more on this below), after you submit this form it is prepopulated by cookie only, so nobody else
can see your information on this page unless they are also logging in from your own computer. What we ask
for below is just that which is required by the members of Congress themselves to accept feedback
from their own constituents.
FAQs:
1. Can you show me a sample message so I'm clear on the sending format?
OK, let's say you wanted to speak out for single payer health care (HR 676). In your Twitter update box simply type @cxs first, then
your message, making a point of using one (and only one) of the issue tag words on the left preceded by #. So for example you might send something that would look like this:
2. The form above won't let me enter my Twitter username. What's up?
Rather than asking for your Twitter password, our system authenticates by private conversation. When you become a follower of cxs, we will send back to you by Twitter direct message a link with an encrypted key, that will log you in and allow you to submit the contact info set up form above. You will only have to do this one time and you are off to the races.
3. Will my contact information be shared with anyone else?
Not other than the members of Congress your messages are intended for. We do not share our participants'
information with ANY other groups or organizations.
4. Why do you need a phone number?
We don't. The form can be submitted without requiring one. But please be aware that some members of Congress DO require
a phone number to accept a message from you.
5. How can I follow the message stream?
If you and your friends are all following us (at http://twitter.com/cxs),
you will be able to watch the messages to Congress of all the other friends you are following,
as their replies to us come through, using your default Twitter notices setting ("@replies to the people I'm following").
In addition, once we really get rolling we anticipate setting up functions that will allow you to watch the
Twitter parts of the message streams by issue category.
6. What kind of updates will I get as a follower of cxs?
We plan on doing standard Twitter updates there a couple times a week to let you know about important votes coming up
on critical issues where the impact of your voice can make a real difference.
7. What is the "Acknowledge delivery" checkbox for?
In the form above, if you leave checked the "Acknowledge delivery" checkbox (the default), you will get a regular Twitter reply from another one of our Twitter accounts (outgoing_ONLY, used only for outgoing replies) to confirm that your messages have been delivered. This generally will happen within 10 minutes. Or you can disable this particular feature by unchecking the checkbox and submitting the form. Our system will remember your selection.
8. Can I take any position I want on the issues?
Not only that, you can speak out on any issue you like, and rally all your friends to do the same thing, and
start your own citizen initiative movements.
9. Is there a message sending limit?
If everyone in the country spoke out on an important issue just once or twice a week,
we could attain any policy change dream in an instant. We don't want to have to set a hard limit.
There may be weeks where there are just too many different things that needed to be acted on.
Make your messages count. The most important thing is that it is the number of DIFFERENT people speaking out that creates the impact.
In short, don't be a broken record. Instead, help to orchestrate the activist symphony by
encouraging everyone else you know to speak out as well. The one thing you are absolutely NOT allowed to do is submit messages
using anyone else's Twitter account.
10. What if I have a question or need more help?
We have created special help tags to route messages intended not for Congress, but for us. Use the word help with
an asterisk (*help) in a reply to @cxs
for general help inquiries. If you need to be sent a new 48 hour login
link use the *login help tag. Please
be responsible how you
use this interface. ANY message of a sufficient length sent as a reply to @cxs that contains a designated
(on the left) issue tag word preceded by the number sign (#) WILL be delivered to Congress if your contact
info has been set up.
