Florida needs jobs, not socialism, which is why state GOP Rep. Ritch Workman wants to repeal the state's ban on tossing little people for sport at bars, even though little people say the job is dangerous and degrading, and even Workman says it's "repulsive and stupid," but down with Big Brother, and anyway think of the jobs. Really.

"I'm on a quest to destroy unnecessary burdens on the freedom and liberties of people." - Workman

Fetal theater is coming to Capitol Hill. "Voices from the Womb," featuring live ultrasounds, will for the first time allow “the preborn children of America to ‘speak' for themselves." The Oct. 13 event launches a national campaign by anti-abortion activists to take ultrasounds on the road to schools, churches, anywhere legislators and others can see the unconscionably exploitative and intrusive spectacle of "our sons and daughters" in their "safe haven of love." So much for the dignity of life.

"These little boys and girls want to be our neighbors. We should not kill them."

Last night's beating of protesters with a baton by a NYPD white-shirt was violent enough that YouTube warns the video "may contain inappropriate content." Note: This was the police. It gets even more dramatic when you see protesters react by passionately, collectively yelling "Remain calm!" and "This is a peaceful protest!" The Guardian has more, including Jon Stewart on who's "patriotic" and who isn't.

Eternal frat boy, former Cosmo centerfold and GOP Sen. Scott Brown sure was hilarious responding to a jab from likely Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren: Asked how she paid for (public) college, she retorted she kept her clothes on. "Thank God!" Brown said. Har har. We hope he's still laughing when she blows him out of the water, likely after a stellar first debate performance in which she charged, "The people on Wall Street broke this country."

Close to 20,000 have joined the Occupy march in New York, with Liberty Park full and more still arriving. Watch the livestream in More. Very stirring. Updates here.

When a supposedly more tolerant Donald Rumsfeld sat down for an interview with Al Jazeera, it didn't take long for him to revert to sociopathic form, fuming at the audacity of anyone questioning him about anything - in this case, the inadequacy of U.S. planning in Iraq that led to thousands of civilian deaths. Rumsfeld has called Al Jazeera coverage “vicious, inaccurate and inexcusable.” He knows whereof he speaks. Video.

Chutzpah Dept: John Boehner and House GOP leaders have tripled the amount of taxpayer money - from $500,000 to $1.5 million - they will spend to defend discrimination, aka the Defense of Marriage Act. Pelosi calls it "unconscionable," which doesn't begin to cover it.
