Mom of Teen-Age & Tween Girls

I was reading this blog post by long time blogger Jenn of Mommy Needs Coffee when my 15 year old daughter asked me to help her blow dry her hair. You see, school starts tomorrow and she has to prep everything tonight (hooray!)  I walk into the bathroom, where my daughter is waiting and, as I turn on the hairdryer, I realize that I cannot even see the top of her head. She is, literally, 6 inches taller than I. My eyes started to well up with tears (as they are now while recalling the moment) as I thought about all the times I did her hair while she was so much younger (and shorter!)  My daughter started to laugh at the sight of us reflected in the bathroom mirror and, being a good sport, knelt down on the bathmat in order to allow me full access to her head.

Once we were finished, I was thinking about the blogpost Jenn had written. It’s true – there is no specific place for Moms of Teens to belong. I stopped blogging for a while due to a very busy schedule with my two daughters. I did keep up with other bloggers but I was never one to go to BlogHer. Finances never allowed for such an expense. I started blogging actively in December of 2001 thanks to Blogspot. Several different URLs later, and here I am, still hanging around dusty old Katespot, no longer relevant but still trying to get back to writing and reading about people I care about.

I have made significant & positive changes in my life, just for me. It’s time to be a little selfish and focus on myself for a while. But, the changes I have made will have long-term positive effects for my family as well. My girls are old enough where they can help out with so much more. It’s a good thing to have teenagers.. well… except when you need to get them out of bed. Then, you’re on your own!

Hurricane Irene

Holy smokes – what a freakin’ week!!

Hurricane Irene decided to pay NJ a visit Saturday after she destroyed South & North Carolina, Virginia, & Maryland. She didn’t stop at New Jersey and continued her path of destruction into New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. My family and I, as well as some neighbors, lost power for 15 hours. I am certainly not complaining as there are people who will be out of power for over a week. Sure, we had some rain, other places were totally flooded and destroyed. My family was able to stay safe, others were not so lucky. My heart goes out to all the families who lost loved ones during the hurricane.

I do want to thank all the responders: police, fire, first aid, as well as all the military support. Don’t forget about all the medical staffing at area hospitals as well.

Well, I am off to work – have a great (& dry!) day..

Freakin’ Earthquake!

At 155pm today, NJ experienced an earthquake. Earthquake!!! So scary! It was over rather quickly, maybe 20 seconds. I have never felt an earthquake before and I do have to say it scared me half to death! My eldest daughter was at home and she freaked out too – poor kid. The quake was measured at a 5.9 magnitude. Hell – earthquakes are a major reason I DON’T live on the West Coast.

Hurricanes, earthquakes, and taxes – I’ll still  stay in New Jersey. Unless, I win the lottery – then I’m gettin’ the hell outta here! LOL!

Florida Woman Tries to Sell Son for $2,000

A Florida woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly attempting to sell her 5-year-old son for $2,000. Jessica Marie Beers, 29, allegedly told a couple she met at church that she would sell them the boy’s parental rights. The couple, fearing for the child’s welfare, reported the woman to authorities, a statement from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Really? WTF is wrong with people? That poor little boy..

Starting over.. again..

Well, what can I say? No excuse for my poor neglected old blog. I remember the OLD days when I could easily blog 3-4 times a day. now, I tweet, facebook, and text. Blogging is so 2006.  : )

I’ve got to update my blogroll – I’ve been trying to keep up with blogs using Google Reader but, sadly, I cannot keep up. I blame it on going back to work full-time. I never realized how much time I was on the computer for fun. Now, my job requires me to talk on the phone and do data entry from 9am until 5pm. OMG – tedious. I am not complaining as I am very happy to even have a job. I just wish.. well, I wish I had the dang winning lottery numbers. I need to retire… or at least take a vacation. I don’t know how some poeple can go on vacation so much throughout the year – how do they afford it?!? Wish I could afford it.  ::sigh::

OK, enough of the pity party. So, what’s the big news? BlogHer 2011? Done. Can’t afford to go to those. I have no readership so I can’t get sponsored.. not like my boss would give me time off to attend. I do miss going to all the blogmeets & fun promo events. Guess I have to get my ass BACK into blogging and see what falls my way..

Well, off to tinker with this old blog and see what happens. Ciao!

It’s been a week??

Forgive me Internets – my week has been intense.
Eldest (the 14 yr old) has been laid up for over a week with some kind of disgusting virus. She was coughing and coughing… and coughing some more. Poor kid. Had to take her out of school today (again! after missing 3 1/2 days last week!) to bring her back to the doctor. She is now the proud owner of two inhalers, a script for Singulair, and has a note dismissing her from gym for the rest of the week. A side note – I am *still* hacking up from my bout with pneumonia over a month ago. UGH UGH UGH!

Other health issues, I am looking to have a surgical procedure done in March. I have had several other tests to prepare for the procedure – an echo cardiogram, a sleep study (which SUCKED!), and on Thursday, an endoscopy. Wheeeeee! Don’t you wish you were me?

This and That

Cold weather sucks. It chills me right down to my bones. If my feet get cold, I’m shot for the day. I must confess – my feet are freezing. I want it to be spring already!!
