Check out this latest video from the guys at IGN where they check out the U.S.S. Enterprise from the orginal Star Trek.
Scott Sharkey from IGN takes a go at the latest MineCraft update and shows us all the new elements. This is a really great overview, take a peek...
Markus 'Notch' Persson was kind enough to IGN and give his own overview of everything that came in this latest update.
Notch gives his reasons why MineCraft and Steam are not meant for each other. He stated:
"Being on Steam limits a lot of what we're allowed to do with the game, and how we're allowed to talk to our users," he writes. "We (probably) wouldn't be able to, say, sell capes or have a map market place on minecraft.net that works with steam customers in a way that keeps Valve happy. It would effectively split the Minecraft community into two parts, where only some of the players can access all of the weird content we want to add to the game."
The guys over at GameSpy has an article well worth checking out...
On its own, the ever-evolving world of Minecraft is already a wondrous place capable of consuming vast quantities of your attention with voracious abandon. But as anticipation builds leading up to the hotly-anticipated Adventure Update and the game's official release, it's tough to remain content with the limited scope found in the current Beta's gameplay. Thankfully, Minecraft's thriving fan community has taken things into their own hands, concocting an insane array of mods that change the game in mind-blowing ways. Riding a time-traveling pig to dino land, battling armed warriors, annihilating the blocky landscape in a Sherman tank, and taming a menagerie of beasts are just a few of the wild adventures awaiting you in this selection of killer Minecraft mods.

The mob is now named Enderman, kudos to a Reddit poster for pointing out the 'Slender man' resemblance and thusly giving Notch the idea of naming this creepy addition 'Enderman' Enderman loves to teleport... but only when you aren't looking directly at it.(1) It can carry blocks.... we've still no idea if that is a good thing or not though! You are helping figure out what Enderman is going to do and what purpose it will serve with your speculation! That's right, speculate away and you just might turn out magically correct, because......
So tell us, what do you think the Enderman should do? Think this teleporting shadow man is going to follow you home from the nether as some Redditors believe? Or perhaps he'll be an ally of sorts, perhaps even building and altering the envornment itself. Notch could go in all kinds of directions with this beasty, speculate away and give him some solid ideas!
Most of the basics of the game engine is in place, so it’s time to flesh this game out into something more gamey. More content, more exploration, more things to do, and interesting combat! Once this update is out, there will only some tweaks, optimizations and code cleanups left to the core game before we can call it a full release.
We’ve got a list of some 40+ things we want to add to the game, some small, some big. Some huge. We’ve finished a fair number of the items, but there’s still a significant amount of work left. While I can’t reveal the date yet for various reasons, we do have a release date for the Adventure Update in mind, and we’re hoping we’ll be able to hit it.
Jens and I are keeping the exact contents of the update secret, but we do leak some information every now and then to keep people interested and to stop us from going insane. For the most immediate spoilers, you can follow us on Twitter (@notch and @jeb_), or on Google+ (+Markus Persson and +Jens Bergensten).
Here are a few of the things we’ve revealed so far:
- NPC villages
- Randomly generated dungeons
- New biome code
- Fully working Creative Mode (and individual admins can enter Creative Mode on a Survival Mode server if they choose)
- Critical hits
- Sprinting
- More farming options
As soon as I can reveal the release date we’re aiming for, I will!
Oh, and the modding support is happening, honest. -Source: Notch
+ Added pistonsHerobrine, oh poor Herobrine. The mysterious ghost in the machine that is Minecraft. Have no fear, you can't kill a ghost. Notch keeps trying, but his evil twin always lives on.
+ Fire or redstone is now required to trigger TNT
+ Fences can be stacked
+ Added shears
+ Shears can be used to pick up leaf blocks
+ Shears can be used to shear sheep without hurting them
* Sheep no longer drop wool from being punched
- Removed Herobrine
After 1.8, we’ll have to start crunching for the full release in November. That includes finishing up the mod api, improving stability and performance, adding supporting features like friends lists and a proper server browser, integrating singleplayer and multiplayer, and most importantly fleshing out the gameplay.
Since 1.8 is still a significant time away, we’re going to have to stop being as secretive about it as we have. We’ll provide information about it as we go, but we’ll keep actual details secret. So, for example, we could say “added two new colors” without saying which ones, or “testing experience and leveling to see if it’s fun” without giving details on exactly how it works.
The update is pretty big, and will change a lot of how Minecraft is played, focusing on making exploration and combat much more rewarding, and bringing in a bigger sense of adventure to the game.
Already implemented are new complex terrain features, at least one new mob, some interesting new combat mechanics, a new lighting engine, and some experimental new gameplay ideas. To come is more interesting farming, bigger incentives to explore, and npc villages.
Though the story of Minecraft’s development is unique, equally so are the stories of those who play the game. They may take it to unexpected places and push the limits of its design; or they may find the game itself changing their lives in unexpected ways.
2 Player Productions is putting out an open call for Minecraft players to send us your personal stories about how the game has impacted your life. These stories will be collected and considered for inclusion in “Minecraft: The Story of Mojang,” the new feature-length documentary in development by 2 Player Productions.
Please submit your story in 350 words or less to minecraft@2playerproductions.com
Not all submissions will be used in the film, but they will be read and considered.

Unless there are any emergency things to fix, I won’t do any more updates before 1.7. Going to E3 on Saturday.
I will be bringing my laptop to do some development, but I won’t be able to do much testing.
