Diablo III Beta Musings

By Bennett Ring | PC Articles | Sep 21, 2011 8:00 PM | Comment

I'll admit it. My first ever hands-on time with any Diablo game occurred just 24 hours ago, when my inexperienced Demon Hunter took his first fumbling steps into the Diablo III beta's dark and ominous dungeons. It took just three hours before I'd hacked and slashed my way to the main storyline's satisfying conclusion, but in that short period of time my eyes were opened to an entirely new perspective on a gaming world. As a lover of first person games, the isometric camera system in Diablo III felt very unfamiliar, and I inevitably wondered why Blizzard didn't make the leap to first person like so many other developers. This led me to wonder - should Diablo III have been a first person game, and what are the pros and cons of this approach? Let's find out. Read More »

Everything You Didn't Know to Ask, or Ask to Know: An Idiot's Guide to The Elder Scrolls

By Drs. Eric Neigher and David Wolinsky | PC News | Sep 21, 2011 12:21 PM | Comment

The English language itself would be hard-pressed to come up with a proper description of how impenetrable the backstory of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls universe is. We like to call it "improvisational jazz with made-up words." That's why we, Phoenix University-licensed and fully accredited Elder Scrolls historians, are taking the liberty of boiling-, dumbing-, and distilling-down centuries of phony history to the handful of hard and fast facts you'll need to know as a level-grinding tourist in the dragon-filled land of Skyrim come November. Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes is nothing short of confusing. The latest in EA's growing Play4Free line, the BioWare-developed Wrath of Heroes carries the recognized Warhammer Online moniker, though its relationship to the actual Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning seems to go no deeper than the name.
