New Sonic Youth Album On The Way

Alternative rock icons Sonic Youth, according to Kevin O'Donnell's interview in Rolling Stone with Thurston Moore, in his article "Sonic Youth Back in the Studio, Close to Signing With New Label" have a new album in the works. O'Donnell reports:

"Moore does reveal, however, that Sonic Youth are currently in the writing-stage of their next album. In November, they’ll hit the studio to cut tracks, with the goal of releasing the disc sometime next spring."

Moore also told Rolling Stone that the band has indeed left Geffen Records shortly after the label released their last album Rather Ripped. As for moving away from the major label, Moore said, “The last four or five records we did were just so compromised by that [major label] situation. But that’s the way it goes” (O'Donnell.)

Radiohead End North American Tour With Free Webcast!

Thanks to Colin Greenwood, who sent out the news through Dead Air Space and Radiohead's Facebook page about the news of the band's final show of their North American tour being shown as a free webcast. The concert will be held tonight in Santa Barbara at the same time as the Democratic National Convention, in case you were wondering of a certain collision of time with Barack Obama's speech.

Colin's Message from Dead Air Space: "To celebrate the end of a brilliant tour, we're going to webcast the last show here in America. We'll be playing live in Santa Barbara, at the Bowl. It's one of our favourite places to play; I think we've ended tours there before, once even playing a cover of ' cinnamon girl '. It's not too big, in fact it's very intimate, a small arena with a dirt floor, set in pretty countryside. It should be a special night, for lots of reasons, and we're going to try and share as much of it as we can on the webcast. Nigel, our producer, will be helping out getting it to you, so if it goes wrong....It's live! Thank you so much to everyone who's come and seen us this year; it has truly been the most special and exciting tour for all of us."

Mac users need to download flip4mac to view the show, while Windows users need to download a VLC media player. Expect the show to be broadcasted at radiohead.tv.

New Of Montreal - Nonpareil of Favor

Almost every time I further my pursuit of the newest music to dish out, Of Montreal seems to have another new single waiting in the wings. Now, only a year after their last album Hising Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?, Kevin Barnes and Co. look to release their next one, entitled Skeletal Lamping (available for pre-order September 1st.) Their first single, "Id Engager" was already thrown out pretty much through of every other music blog, and has already been followed up with their newest one, "Nonpareil of Favor."

I can never seem to correctly describe any of their songs for other people, so you can just have it and decide for yourself.

Be Your Own Pet Perform Final Show

What the Hell? Apparently this was known already (since August 1st?!), but for those who, like me, were left out, the members of Be Your Own Pet performed their final show in London two nights ago, only three years into their budding careers. Two of BYOP's members--Jonas Stein and John Eartherly--will further their side project band Turbo Fruits, but what will become of bassist Nathan Vasquez and lead singer Jemina Pearl is as of now unknown.

Anyway...

A fond farewell to the garage punks from Nashville Tennessee. May your retirement be short and irrelevant (2005-2008.)

Sioux City and The Olive Garden

I'm a moderate fan of the Olive Garden restaurants. I know a lot of people dislike them, but that really doesn't bother me (too much). I also know that there are many many restaurants that are in fact better than Olive Garden. But, as of now, I'm still okay with the franchise.

Apparently, though, some people really really love The Olive Garden. Full hard on, I mean. Check out this incredibly funny (oddly pathetic) article in The Sioux City Journal about the town's first Olive Garden opening, entitled "Olive Garden Arrives."

I'd like to leave you with a quote from the article.

New Kanye West Video - Good Morning

Kanye West's mid-day text messages really help out making an average day a little better. Mr. West's got another video off his Graduation LP (which if you've been counting, is six now), this time for "Good Morning." Though his blog only offers a 30-second sample of the video, Stereogum provides the whole thing. It's another cartoon-ishly effective video, like his last one for "Champion" during the Beijing Olympics height of popularity. No puppets this time though. Just the bear.

I'm really liking this story I found through Best Week Ever by Alex Blagg, entitled "Just Asking: Is Michael Phelps a Douche?" It explores the boundaries of USA Olympic Superstar Michael Phelps and his questionable state of appearences outside of the pool *(note the number of baseball caps you can find.)
