Fireside chats is the term used to describe a series of 30 evening radio addresses given by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt between 1933 and 1944. The fireside chats represent the first time in history that a chief executive communicated directly with a large number of citizens. Roosevelt spoke with familiarity to millions of Americans about the banking crisis, the recession, New Deal initiatives, and the principal purposes and specific progress of World War II. On radio, he was able to quell rumors and explain his policies comprehensibly. His tone and demeanor communicated self-assurance during times of despair and uncertainty. Roosevelt was one of radio's greatest communicators, and the fireside chats kept him in high public regard throughout his presidency.
The series of fireside chats was among the first 50 recordings made part of the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress, which noted it as "an influential series of radio broadcasts in which Roosevelt utilized the media to present his programs and ideas directly to the public and thereby redefined the relationship between the President and the American people."
Dennis Mark Prager (/ˈpreɪɡər/; born August 2, 1948) is an American politically conservative nationally syndicated radio talk show host, columnist, author, and public speaker.
Prager was born to modern Orthodox Jewish parents. He attended Yeshiva of Flatbush in Brooklyn, New York. There, in the 10th grade, he met Joseph Telushkin. The two became close friends and would later co-author two books. He went on to attend Brooklyn College and graduated with a double major in anthropology and history. Between 1970–72, he attended the Middle East and Russian Institutes (now Harriman Institute) at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. Prager also studied international history, comparative religion, and Arabic at the University of Leeds.
Prager left Columbia University without finishing his MA degree and decided to write an introduction to Judaism with his friend Joseph Telushkin. The Nine Questions People Ask About Judaism was published in 1976 and became a bestseller, popular in all major American Jewish movements. The book was intended for the nonobservant Jews. Unlike Telushkin, who became an Orthodox rabbi, Prager abandoned his Orthodoxy as an adult although he continues to maintain many traditional Jewish practices.

Fireside Chat 1 On the Banking Crisis (March 12,1933) Given by Franklin Delano Roosevelt
In the years following the Great Depreesion, Franklin Roosevelt sought to soothe a weary and disillusioned American pulic with his "Fireside Chats." In tihis 1935 film clip, enhanced for YouTube viewers by Rockport Restoration Studios, FDR reminds us that history can repeat itself.
The first 5 minutes of of a 13 min 42 sec speech delivered on March 12, 1933. When President Franklin D. Roosevelt took office in 1933, one in four Americans was out of work nationally, but in some cities and some industries unemployment was well over 50 percent. Equally troubling were the bank panics. Between 1929 and 1931, 4,000 banks closed for good; by 1933 the number rose to more than 9,000, with $2.5 billion in lost deposits.

In this address just two days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt prepares the nation for the war ahead. He urges the nation to steel itself for casualties and setbacks and prepare to make the sacrifices necessary in the coming fight. The President also emphasizes that Italy and Germany remain grave threats to the United States but stops short of declaring war on the two nations. Last weekend we had the second Youth Fireside Chat where Tom answered questions from a younger audience than we usually have on the regular Fireside Chats. Unfortunately, several participants didn't show up but Kyle our new 12-year old member and 10-year-old Alexander who was already attending the second time saved the day by coming up with a lot of really good questions for Tom, so we almost went for the whole 2 hours we had scheduled. It was a great interaction and we have already agreed to do this a third time. If you are a teenager, see the recording and want to be a part of the next edition of this format, feel free to contact Oliver at mbt@matrixwissen.de for further information. All previous Fireside Chats are now also available as free audio podcasts here: https://fireside-po...
