My search history has taken a proper battering... I find the debate on loli and simulated CP genuinely fascinating, as it really forces you to question how dangerous fantasy can be. I think such a large reason this debate remains ongoing is because of the total lack of research on this topic. As a result, all we can really do is speculate how simulated cp like loli affects societies like Japan. That is truly how much power this debate holds, perhaps not in numbers, but certainly in terms of passion from certain groups of people either defending or attacking it. Before I get into the meat of this video I'd like to make it clear that I am not here to pick sides or form an extreme pro or anti opinion, as the discussion is far more layered then most people make it out to be, and is rooted in aspects of life that far surpass the scope of fiction. My main goal here is to present all the necessary information, to allow the most educated formation of opinion from whoever may view this video, however, I will also make my stance on the issue clear don't you worry about that. Now rather than diving right into the morals of loli, it's important to understand the history that leads up to this moment, as there are a lot of misconceptions regarding Japanese involvement with the con. One thing I'd like to mention very quickly is the existence of Shotacon, which is essentially the male version of lolicon, yes, I know it's a thing, everything I say in this video can also be applied to shotacon so don't bother mentioning it. So without further ado, let's get started. ORIGINS First of all, it doesn't surprise me that outside of the basic idea, the number of people who know anything substantial about loli is pretty small, and this is because the roots of lolicon are needlessly mysterious, and many just don't bother to do any research. The Wikipedia page is pretty barren as well, and I can only assume that this is due to the simplicity of the concept. A young or young-looking girl character in Japanese anime and manga, thereby making a lolicon an individual fixated upon said loli. And interestingly enough, whilst the information on Loli is rather lackluster, Lolicon is the exact opposite. For the record Wikipedia isn't my main form of research because we all know how unreliable it can be, this video involved a lot of cross referencing and fact checking. Trust me, I did my research. The term Loli as it is understood today can be traced back to the 50s, when Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov released Lolita which I ended up reading out of curiosity. Whilst a majority of the content was largely irrelevant to the discussion, what did peak my interest was the overall theming of the middle aged french protagonist obsessing over a 12 year old American girl named Dolores, whom he molests soon after becoming her stepfather, branding her with the nickname 'Lolita.' And just like that, the trend began. No doubt the quality of the novel contributed to the term's future popularity, because for those wondering, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the novel. It is a genuinely good read, and I would recommend it. There were film adaptations. Broadway musicals, and worldwide notoriety, and the increasing popularity directly positively correlates to the rapidly increasing notoriety of loli as a whole, and also cemented it as the official name for the archetype. Even though the novel is far too controversial to be as popular nowadays, the legacy had already done what it needed to do. The social cryptomnesia had already sunk in.
