Here is Juergen Michaelis demoing his new Jomox MBrane II modeling synth at the BCM NAMM booth. The MBrane II is a small analog synth optimized for percussive snare drum and cowbell-like sounds with a wide range of sound characteristics. Juergen's new design makes it possible to produce very authentic membrane-like sounds from 2 analog T-Bridge oscillators by means of coupling and dampening. A versatile noise generator with white noise, metal noise and envelope control allows you to created snare drums, rim shots, cow bells and bongos.

Okay. Finally! Not a very musical sequence but we're just trying to show off all of the incredible sounds the AO does. For a second we had it sounding like a violin! You can also hear a short envelope with some serious FM'ing by the Cwejman sine. We're using just the AO, the Borg as a VCA and an Analogue Systems rs200 sequencer and rs130 PSG as a quantizer and a Cwejman sine wave for modulation. At times it sounds like there's a filter but there's not! The AO has a 1volt/octave input as well as exponential, linear and wave envelope inputs which reveals some super awesome FM sounds. For the money and high-quality build the AO is a no brainer. And it sounds fantastic!

Here is the huge sounding DRM1 MkIII analog drum module from Vermona. The DRM1 has amazing hands-on control for every single parameter, giving a knob for immediate manipulation. Trigger the sounds either with the trigger button or via MIDI. No menus here! There are 8 channels at your discretion: kick, 2 drum (from kick to high tom sounds), multi (think 808 cowbell to sound effects), snare, 2 cymbals (for closed and open hats or crashes) and a clap channel. It seems like every time we turn on the Sherman Filterbank 2 we get new and interesting sounds. We have never messed with the MIDI control before and thought it would be an opportune time for a video. The Elektron MachineDrum is sequencing the drums and controlling the cutoff of filter 1 & 2 as well as the the release on the AR envelope. If you watch closely, you can see us un-mute the MIDI sequencer channel on the MD, engaging MIDI control. The Sherman Filterbank is a load of fun, and certainly one of the best values in the analog processor realm!

Here's a smattering of presets from the mega-awesome polysynth from Studio Electronics, The CODE 4OD. The CODE sports Moog and Oberheim-style filters stock. Yamaha CS-80, Arp 2600 and TB-303 style filter cards can be added by the user. The CODE's we carry come standard with four voice cards which give you four note polyphony. Other voice cards can be added, allowing you up to eight voices total. This is definitely one of the best sounding polysynths ever made and has some great modern features like storable presets, lFO's that sync, cross-modulation, and a switchable overdrive on the output section(hence the "OD") Please note that the Code sounds much better in person or with a proper preamp;) The chord sequence is being generated by the Elektron Machinedrum midi machine.

The WMD Geiger Counter in eurorack has finally arrived! This is a simple squarewave drone from a Cwejman VCO-6. We are sequencing the wavetables of the Geiger with an Analogue Systems rs200. Partway through we add in another sequencer row modulating the sample rate which has an attenuator. Awesome!

The Bleep Labs Thingamagoop 2 has arrived and it's super-fun! The goop 2 has all the features of the original plus more. It has digital and analog oscillators, an LFO to modulate pulse width with square and triangle waveshapes, the ledacle with photo-sensing nose. It also has a dc power inlet, 1/4" audio out, a cut switch, program in. Wait! It also has CV in and out so you can control it with an external sequencer or have the Thingamagoop control your analog synths! Whut? Yes. Available now.

Acid take 2 - Roland TB-303, Jomox 999 & Analogue Systems

We love the Roland TB-303 (who doesn't?), so we went nuts with some Analogue Systems rs95 oscillators, triggering them with the CV and Gate outputs from the 303. The sound of the 303 is given additional balls by processing it through the Malekko B:Assmaster Germanium pedal...sacrilege. You can hear the TB-303 without extra balls at the very end between 6:12 - 6:18. Along with the AS rs95 oscillators we're also using the rs110 Multimode Filter, the rs120 Comb Filter, and the rs100 Low Pass Filter. The drums sounds are from the behemoth Jomox XBase 999 and we're using the Kenton Pro Solo MIDI-CV converter to sync the 303. One of the cymbals from the Jomox is running through the AS rs310 Reverb/Chorus module, which is being modulated by the rs80 LFO's triangle wave. The rs290 Sample/Delay module is providing the delay for that cymbal as well. All of these sounds are being mixed by the rs165 Signal Mixer.

Signal Arts Tetra MAPS Sequencer in Eurorack Format

The MAPS sequencer, short for MIDI Analog Performance Sequencer, is now in Eurorack modular synth format! The Tetra MAPS is an incredibly versatile sequencer, capable of producing beautifully complex multi-channel sequences or your simple everyday sequences. The MAPS has four(!) MIDI-CV converters as well as up to 32 midi channel outputs. This short demo shows multiple sequences "chasing" each other. You can set the gate time per step, which can give you some wonderful rhythmic variation as well as some nice random melodies. By pushing the corresponding encoder, you start a particular sequence. You can start and retrigger all of the sequences multiple times too. Awesome! We're sending our control voltages to three Analogue Systems voices, each patched a bit differently. All are using the rs95 oscillator with fine tuner. One has an rs100 Low Pass filter, one a Comb Filter, and all three mixed are running into the amazing Reverb/Chorus module.

Malekko / Wiard Borg Filter Episode 1 - Low Pass Gate

Here's the first installment of a series of videos of the new Malekko / Wiard Borg and Boogie Filters. The Borg is an incredible mutant module birthed in the mind of designer Grant Richter of Wiard. It's a cross between a Buchla low pass gate and a Korg MS-20 filter. Thanks to Malekko Heavy Industry the module is now in Eurorack format and it sounds amazing! We are sequencing a Cwejman VCO-2RM sine wave oscillator with an Analogue Solutions Oberkorn MkIII. The gate output of the sequencer is triggering a Plan B Model 10 Polyphonic envelope set to a really short pulse (really, really short). Using this type of envelope with a regular VCA would result in a click, no tone. The Borg plays nice in this instance but the next video will show the meaner side of this beast. There's actually a jumper you can remove from the back pcb which gives you an extra large helping of resonance. The "Peaking BP" is actually a pot with a switch. In the off mode, fully CCW, the Borg is in VCA mode. When you start to turn it clockwise it begins to take on a whole new character. The knob at the right we're adjusting is the CV input amount. This also has a big effect on the character of the low pass gate sound. Malekko Rocks! PS The sweet blue LED does light with every trigger pulse. You just can't see it because of the frame rate of the camera or something.

The Critter and Guitari Pocket Piano is one of the coolest toys we've had the pleasure to come across in quite awhile. It's very portable at 10 inches long and it weighs just a pound. The built-in speaker plays nice and loud. You can also run it into an amp or console from the 1/4" jack on top. There are six modes: Vibrato Synth, Harmonic Sweeper, 2-Octave Arpeggiator, Octave Cascade, Mono FM Synth and FM Arpeggiator. There are 4 waveforms: Sine, Square, Triangle and Sawtooth. The Pocket Piano operates from a standard 9 volt battery or a 9 volt wall wart (positive center). Thanks to Josh Flynn for shooting the video! More videos coming.

Here is Stephi tweaking the Analogue Solutions Vostok matrixsynth. The Vostok is being sequenced by the Elektron SPS-1 MachineDrum which also provides the drums. The audio output of the Vostok is run into the MachineDrum (audio in) and we put the built-in reverb, delay and modulation to good use. The Vostok has a real nasty sound of its own and can be patched with cords and/or the matrix pin panel. The joystick is lots of fun too! Here is a very quick demo of the Dewanatron Swarmatron being shown at the Big City Music booth at NAMM. The Swarmatron was created to produce eight tones tuned approximately to one note, each tone slightly different in pitch to produce a complex and natural choral effect. These eight oscillators can be played with a single ribbon controller (variable resistor) to move the pitch center up or down. The span control expands the sound of a swarm of eight notes spread just a few cents apart into a wide chord of equidistant pitches spread over the entire spectrum. The player can "taffy pull" the resulting chord by using the span control and pitch ribbon in tandem. Swarms of sine waves evoke swarms of angels congregating. Swarms of sawtooth waves evoke the swarming of bees. The sound of a host of voices, earthly or unearthly, has a unique character recognized by the ear even when they are folded together in unison.

Here is the all new Metasonix KV-100 AssBlaster vacuum tube processor that was shown at the Big City Music NAMM booth. We are feeding a drum pattern from the Jomox XBase999 analog drum machine. The KV-100 contains the basic preamp stage of the discontinued Metasonix TM-7 Scrotum Smasher, driving the waveshaping (pulser) and ring modulation functions of the discontinued TM-1 (minus the ring-modulator carrier oscillator). These two sections drive a VCO which was derived from the discontinued Metasonix TM-3.
