Email Uploads

July 22nd, 2011 by Brian

You can now use our upload@imgur.com email address to upload your images. All you have to do is attach any allowed file type to your email and send it our way. You can attach as many images as your email client will allow, and we also accept zip and rar archives with images inside of them. We will then send you an email back with the links to the images.

If you would like the images to show up in your account you can register your email with us on your account settings page. Otherwise they will be uploaded anonymously. Here are the steps you should take if you want to activate your email:

First go to the account settings page:

settings

There is now a new tab on the settings page called Email Uploads:

Enter your email address and click activate. You will get a message that looks like this:

Now check your email and you should have a message from us with an activation link. Click on this link and you will be brought to this page indicating your email has been activated successfully:

Now you can start emailing us your images and they will show up in your account. You can activate as many emails as you want, for example I have my regular email and my phone’s email address, given by my provider, activated. If you would like to remove one of your emails all you have to do is click the remove link on the Email Uploads page:

Share your fun from the reddit global meetup!

June 21st, 2011 by David

The Reddit Global Meetup is right around the corner, and we’re dying to see all the fun you have at it! We wanna see your rage faces, hover-hands (you know those’ll be there), Keanu Reeves sightings; everything!

We’re making an event-based gallery located at http://imgur.com/reddit/meetup2011 entirely specifically for the Reddit Global Meetup. You can submit your own images to it in one of three ways:

#1 Tweeting

Simply tweet the photo with the hashtag #redditmeetup, like so:

#2 Emailing

Email images as attachments to redditmeetup@imgur.com. This method accepts zip, rar, and plain images.

#3 Submitting

The last method you can use is a general submission form on our site. We have a link generator that allows you to easily generate a link for any image in your account. Here’s a step-by-step guide to using our link generator:

First, sign in to your account and select “Generate Image Links” from your main account screen:

Next, select any images you want to make links to and click “done”:

Copy the links you receive:

Finally, paste the links into the submission form here:

Have a fantastic time meeting your fellow Redditors, and we can’t wait to see the stuff you come up with!

Thanks, College Volt!

June 10th, 2011 by Alan

We want to say thanks to our friends at College Volt for all of their help promoting Imgur this past month. Maxx and Zac were full of really creative ideas to help us get the word out. They worked hard flyering, chalking streets and sidewalks (when it wasn’t raining), painting walls, and even thought of a cool way to project our logo at night “Batman” style! They also helped us work with 8Fest for our first ever event-based image gallery which got over 95,000 page views – really great for a concert with less than 20,000 people! Make sure to check these guys out at www.collegevolt.com.

Advanced Image Editor

May 26th, 2011 by Alan

We’re proud to announce an all new image editor, and our partnership with Aviary to make it happen.

You’re now able to easily crop and rotate your images in seconds, as well as perform powerful actions such as add text, draw, and even remove red eye and blemishes. We developed the crop and rotate tools ourselves, but the more powerful stuff was left up to Aviary and their remarkable HTML5 photo editor called Feather.

Like Aviary’s other apps, Feather is easy to use and surprisingly powerful. Instead of loading your full-fledged photo suite to do something small, it’s now easy for you to do all the typical actions right here on Imgur. There’s no need to create multiple layers, make magic wand selections, add different type of brush effects, etc. We really love it, and we hope you guys do too.

Try it out by checking “Edit” after selecting your images from the homepage. You can even edit your images after you uploaded them by clicking on the “Edit” button right underneath the image. Also, if you have an account, you can edit any image you’ve ever uploaded by by clicking the edit icon.

The guys over at Aviary have also done a nice write up about the new feature. Read it on their blog here.

Subreddit Browser

April 29th, 2011 by Alan

Imgur started on the social news site Reddit.com as a way for people to share their images with the community. Most imgur users are also redditors, so it’s no surprise that there are some reddit specific features built into imgur. For example, when you’re coming to the site from reddit, there will be a link back to the comments on reddit. That feature has been on the site for a while, but here’s a new one that you’re going to love:

The Subreddit Browser

You can now browse all the imgur links that are submitted to any subreddit. For example: http://imgur.com/r/pics, http://imgur.com/r/earthporn, and http://imgur.com/r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu are my favorites.

Give it a try and let me know what you think! The link is imgur.com/r/AnySubreddit.

10M Uniques

April 11th, 2011 by Alan

We are proud to announce that just about the time of our second birthday Imgur officially passed the 10 million unique visitors a month mark! We think that’s a cause for celebration (and anyone else looking for an excuse to drink on a Monday should join us).

Most of all we just want to say a huge “Thanks!” to our users for all the support. It’s awesome to see so many people around the world using our service, enjoying it and spreading the word to others. We continue to build and improve our product based on your input, rants and feedback. We couldn’t do it without you.

So, let’s raise our glasses and toast to the most entertaining images on the Internet… keep on uploading everyone!

Catify Your Images!

April 1st, 2011 by David

Update: Sorry guys! April fools is over! It was fun while it lasted, but now it’s time to start thinking about next year. Sadly, this epic feature has been removed.

Here at Imgur, we’ve learned a thing or two about what makes an image popular. We’ve seen it all: babies, goats, photo bombs, Courage Wolf, etc.

But there’s always a trump card. There’s the one thing cute enough, evil enough and furry enough to make any image shoot straight to the top of our gallery. We’re talking, of course, about cats.

(Felis catus)

In an effort to help our users upload the best possible images to our site, we’re bringing you the option to automatically Catify your images! With our patented Automatic Catification technology, you have the ability to add a cat to any image you upload to Imgur.

Let’s take a look:

Just take a look at this picture here. Boring, right?

With our Automatic Catification ability, this picture is solid gold!

Let’s try it again!

Again, this picture just feels like it’s missing something.

Purr-fect!

Select the “Catify” option the next time you upload an image to Imgur, and watch the feline magic happen!

Account Stats and Profiles

March 14th, 2011 by Alan

I’m glad to announce a few new features for you this week: individual account statistics, and gallery profiles. Both pages can be found by hovering over your username.

account menu

Gallery Profiles

It’s now possible to go back and see the captions you’ve made as well as the images you’ve liked. Also included on this page is your gallery reputation. Gallery reputation is a gauge of how popular you are within the Imgur community. If people like the captions you’ve made and if you’ve had a few images become very popular, than chances are you’re going to have a pretty high reputation. However, if you haven’t uploaded many images and are not participating in the gallery, then your reputation is going to be much lower. Also, everyone can see this page, so stay on your best behavior!

reputation

Account Stats

The account statistics page shows you information about your account. How many images you have, how much disk space you’re using, as well as how much bandwidth you’ve used is all shown at the top. You can also find out what your most popular images, albums, and gallery captions are. This page is also private (only you can see it).

New Account Managment

February 12th, 2011 by Alan

The “Images” page has just been revamped to include many new features. It’s now possible to view images in specific albums, order images by date, name, or views, as well as generate links for many images at once. You can of course do everything you used to as well, such as delete and edit images.

If you have any feedback on it, then we’d love to hear from you!

Deleting Images

To delete your images, select “Delete Images” from the right-most dropdown.

You can now select any image you want, and as many as you want, for deletion. Once you’re done, just select the “Delete” button. You may also select the “Hide” button if you want to get rid of the images from your account without actually deleting them.

Viewing Album Images

You can now view images that are in a specific album, or even create an album before uploading. Just select an album from the first dropdown, and only the images from within that album will be displayed.

Sorting Images

To sort your images by time uploaded, original file name, or by the number of views, click on the second dropdown.

To change the order of the images, such as arranging them by the least number of views first, click on the third dropdown.

Viewing Image Info and Getting Links

To get information on an image such as the number of views it has, or to get its link codes, click on “View Image Info” from the right-most dropdown. This is also the default action when accessing the “Images” page. Now, once you click on a thumbnail, the image’s information will be displayed. You can copy links and share the images from here.

Generating Multiple Image Links

A new feature is the ability to generate multiple image links. Just select “Generate Image Links” from the right-most dropdown. You can now select any images you want and generate the link codes for them. Just click the “Done” button and the links will appear.

Editing Images

The editing works just like deleting and the generation of link codes. Just select “Edit Images” from the rightmost dropdown. From here, you’ll be able to select as many images as you want. When you’re done, just click “Edit” and an image-editing window will appear.

Viewing Full Images

You can also view the full images and even start them in a slideshow. Select “View Full Images” from the right-most dropdown. Now, when you select a thumbnail, the full image will appear. To start a slideshow, click on “Start Slideshow” on the very bottom left of the image.

Give us your feedback

February 1st, 2011 by Alan

Imgur thrives on user input, and we’d love to hear what you have to say. If you have a suggestion, then head over to our new Feedback page and let us know what it is. We guarantee that we’ll get back to you with our thoughts on it, or maybe even let you know that we just implemented it!

To stay up to date on what we’re doing, then check out the Imgur Facebook and Twitter pages. You can also subscribe to the blog RSS feed.
