Wikileaks founder Julian Assange refused bail in UK
ACTION: FRIDAY 10th DECEMBER - 6PM WESLEY PERTH - If you're outraged about the persecution of Wikileaks' Julian Assange and you're in Perth on Friday, make sure you come to The Human Rights Day Vigil, this Friday December 10, 6pm, outside Wesley Church, corner of Hay and William Streets, Perth city to demand 'Support freedom of speech, support the work of Wikileaks'
rightFrom the newswire: December 8, 2010 - UK - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was today refused bail and remanded in custody until 14 December over allegations of of sex offences in Sweden earlier this year.

Assange has not been charged with any criminal offences, but is only wanted for questioning in Sweden. Assange intends to fight the extradition and denies the allegations. He and his lawyers claim the accusations stem from a "dispute over consensual but unprotected sex" - and say the case has taken on political overtones due to the Wikileaks cable dumps.

A support website for Assange has been setup here: justiceforassange.com

Assange writes in The Australian that the Wikileaks storm "reinforces the need to defend the right of all media to reveal the truth." Meanwhile, in a Time magazine poll, Assange is the leading contender to be named 2010 Person of the Year. More wikileaks media at wlcentral.org

WikiLeaks cannot be stopped - Indymedia
WIKILEAKSSFrom the newswire: December 4th 2010 - As the political attacks against whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks increase to hysterical rancour, the site has also sustained concerted and frequent DDOS attacks exceeding 10 Gigabits a second.

Last week, Amazon.com ceased to host the revolutionary samizdat website on their US servers - following US condemnation of the site's embarrassing revelations. Amazon says it stopped the hosting due to violation of its terms of service.

Despite this Julian Assange, Wikileaks Editor in Chief, says: "we have been deliberately placing some of our servers in jurisdictions that we suspected suffered a free speech deficit in order to separate rhetoric from reality. Amazon was one of these cases." READ MORE. Mastercard and Visa have also pulled the plug on Wikileaks accounts, along with Assange's Swiss account ceased.

On Friday, the Domain service everydns.org which hosted the Wikileaks domain name ceased to host the account citing: "wikileaks.org has become the target of multiple distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks... (which) threaten the stability of the EveryDNS.net infrastructure, which enables access to almost 500,000 other websites." In the meantime, PayPal has joined Amazon and EveryDNS in cancelling services for WikiLeaks.

Nevertheless, anyone who knows anything about how the internet works understands that you cannot silence an open media. Over 500 mirror sites across the cybersphere have taken up the issue, including the Indymedia network: http://wikileaks.indymedia.org

The REAL FACTS OF DEATHS IN CUSTODY
Deaths In custodyFrom the newswire: "Australia has one of the world's worst records of deaths in police and prison custody. Most Australians do not know the awful truth...

The Australian Institute of Criminology’s National Deaths in Custody Program said there were 601 deaths in custody in Australia from 2000 to 2007 alone. The same rates continue. These 601 deaths in custody over eight years (an average of 75 deaths a year) compares badly with the horrific 1980-2000 tally: 1442 deaths in custody (an average of 72 deaths a year). The rate of deaths in custody is increasing. The 99 Aboriginal deaths in custody from 1980 to May 1989, which led to the 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, do not reveal the total numbers of Australian deaths in custody. They do not reveal the bottom-of-the-barrel, sub-standard custodial services of police or prisons.

Shamefully, Aboriginal deaths in custody have not improved. In fact, they have risen, 20 years after the Royal Commission. The Commission report made 339 recommendations, but — in terms of police and prison custodial handling and services — most of the recommendations have not been carried out"...

Suicide at Villawood as detainees protest
From the newswire: 16 NOVEMBER 2010 - An Iraqi man tragically took his own life on Monday 15th November at Villawood IDC. This is the second suicide in two months at the detention centre run by the Multinational Serco.

Refugee activists are holding protests outside the centre as detainees go on a hunger strike inside the centre. This suicide comes in the same week as a violent brawl at a Melbourne Detention Centre between Afghan teenagers recently moved from Christmas Island.

Just like under Howard, traumatised people are being stressed and broken by the thousands by the Gillard Government with over 5000 people locked up in Australia's immigration gulags.
