We were on extra vehicular activity again! This time, and for the first time, at a Science-Fiction Convention happening in Dortmund. Douglas arriving in Jamestown for Jackson's funeral; (5) Price's role, as president of the Jamestown Bar Association, organizing for that funeral trip by the Justices and a subsequent lunch at Moonbrook Country Club; (6) Ernest Leet and Marion Fisher assisting as ushers and co-chairs; (7) Governor Thomas E. He felt withdrawn and isolated as a child, and was bullied by other children. This gave him, he thought, "...the requisite contempt for the crowd and for the group mores...". Parsons was born into a rich family, and sometime in his youth there was whathe referred to as a loss of family fortune. This loss must only have been a temporary one, though - perhaps caused by the break-up of the family - since in the 1940's he inherited from his father a large, Victorian-style mansion in the well-to-do area of Pasadena. Durring adolescence, Parsons developed an interest in science, especially physics and chemistry, and in fact he went on to develop a career as a brilliant scientist in the fields of explosives and rocket-fuel technology. CHARLES DAVIS BIOGRAPHY Born Robert Charles Davis, April 22, 1953 in Jackson, Mississippi, his mother and father were music lovers. His mother sang in church choirs. His father was a guitar player, blues and gospel were his love, and that's what inspired him and his brothers to pursue music at a very early age. Inspired by such groups as The Temptations, The Originals, The Dells, and The Four Tops, Charles and his brothers started a group of their own, called The Chosen Few, who went on to win local talent shows. The group broke up in 1974. He joined the Army and went on to start a group while stationed in Wurzburg Germany. This group played all the major clubs and also worked for the USO After leaving the service he went back to the job that he had before he enlisted. He also went back to school majoring in Chemistry (paint formulation) becoming manager of the plant, still singing at parties, but not as often as he would have liked. One day while sitting around with some friends singing different songs he met a young man named Martin (Bennie) Upshire who was the lead singer for the Motown group The Contours. They became good friends. Shortly after, Bennie came over to Charles apartment and asked him if he would like to audition for the group The Contours, Of course he said yes, one of the guys was leaving the group. They should not be confused with the hard rock band Scorpions from Germany, or the London-based outfit The Scorpions. Their most important hit was "Hello Josephine", a song written by Fats Domino. ------------------------ "What'd I Say" (or "What I Say") is a song by American rhythm and blues (R&B) musician Ray Charles, released in 1959 as a single divided into two parts. It was improvised one evening late in 1958 when Charles, his orchestra, and backup singers had played their entire set list at a show and still had time left; the response from many audiences was so enthusiastic that Charles announced to his producer that he was going to record it. It was added to the National Recording Registry in 2002 and ranked at number 10 in Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". The Jefferson Hotel embodies luxury and has been the destination for many US presidents including Harrison, McKinley, Wilson, Coolidge, Taft, both Roosevelts (Theodore and Franklin Delano), Truman and Reagan, both Bushes and Obama have stayed at the hotel. Also among the rich and/or famous guests were: Admiral Dewey, Sarah Bernhardt, Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Vanderbilts, Whitneys and Barrymores, Gertrude Stein, Sir Edmund Hillary, Charles Chaplin, Nelson Eddy, Robert Mitchum, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley who enjoyed a breakfast of bacon, eggs over easy, milk, no coffee, and home fries, capped off with a scoop of ice cream in cantaloupe. It was filmed entirely in California and included scenes at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. The film was based on a story by film noir writer Jay Dratler. Millionaire industrialist Walter Williams has a young wife, Irene, who is trying to kill him with the help of her young lover, Jim Torrance. The plan falls apart when Williams survives a hit on the head from the would-be killer. Torrance flees the scene in Williams' car but dies in a head-on collision. At this point, it is believed that Williams was the driver. The dazed Williams ends up in a small town in Idaho. He gets a job as a service station mechanic and falls in love with Marsha, the station's owner. Meanwhile, the police arrest Williams' wife for his "murder." Marsha eventually persuades Walter to go back to clear his wife, but he is charged with the murder of the lover.
