WORLD AIDS DAY – December 1 There are events in cities across the nation and around the world. Showtime on cable TV is showing “The Last One” about the legacy of the AIDS quilt at 8:30 pm on December 1 and it is available that day on iTunes as well. There is a big rally to End AIDS by 2020 at New York’s Apollo Theatre at 10 AM at 253 West 125th Street. ANDY’S REVIEWS: SIDE SHOW at the St. James Theatre is a solid, re-worked revival of the Bill Russell-Henry Krieger musical by Bill Condon, the out gay director of movies like “Dreamgirls” and “Kinsey.” It’s about conjoined twins—the famous Hilton Sisters, sung and played beautifully by Erin Davie and Emily Padgett—who move from a freak show to Vaudeville. It deals with outsiders based on race and sexual orientation as well within a crowd-pleasing traditional Broadway musical framework. Especially fine is David St. Louis as Jake, the protector of the twins. JOY BEHAR is off The View, but is on the stage of the historic Cherry Lane Theatre in the Village with ME, MY MOUTH & I, a trip through her improbable life from her Italian roots in Brooklyn to the big time with lots of hilarious bumps on the way. Joy tells us about her work as a secretary at Good Morning America with Ann Northrop where she was part of Lesbian Hour, her near death experiences on stage and off, her gay fan base, and how her tough questions on The View, where she held court for 16 years, scared away some politicians. She dishes some of her former colleagues at The View, including Barbara Walters and Star Jones, and is delightfully honest throughout. An hour and a half of Joy. What more can you ask for?
