Aksel Larsen (5 August 1897 – 10 January 1972) was a Danish politician who was chairman of the Communist Party of Denmark and chairman and founder of the Socialist People's Party. Larsen became leader of the Danish Communist Party in 1932, and was elected to the Danish Parliament (Rigsdagen) in 1932. Together with other Danish communists Larsen had to go into hiding in 1941 when the Danish police began arresting all party members.

Amelia Earhart
Amelia Mary Earhart ( ); (born July 24, 1897; missing July 2, 1937; declared legally dead January 5, 1939) was a noted American aviation pioneer and author. Earhart was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, awarded for becoming the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She set many other records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. Earhart joined the faculty of the world-famous Purdue University aviation department in 1935 as a visiting faculty member to counsel women on careers and help inspire others with her love for aviation. She was also a member of the National Woman's Party, and an early supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment.

William Earl Webb (September 17, 1897 - May 23, 1965) was an American right fielder in Major League Baseball, playing from 1925 to 1933. He played for five teams, including the Boston Red Sox for three years. He was born in White County, Tennessee and died in Jamestown, Tennessee. In 1931, while playing for the Red Sox, he hit a record 67 doubles, a record that still stands today. He had a career batting average of .306 with 56 home runs. Webb finished second in the league in extra base hits in 1931 with 84. His .333 batting average in 1931 was seventh-highest in the American League. He also finished seventh in the 1931 American League Most Valuable Player voting. He batted left-handed, and threw right-handed.

Harold Alexander Houser (March 31, 1897 – September 3, 1981) was a United States Navy Rear admiral, and the 35th Governor of American Samoa from September 10, 1945 to April 22, 1947. Houser was born in Fort Valley, Georgia, and graduated from the Marion Military Institute before receiving an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. During his naval career, he served in numerous posts, including commanding the Naval Air Station Key West and serving as a gunnery officer aboard the USS Omaha (CL-4). While governor, he represented the United States at a meeting of the major powers in the Pacific. Leon Bollee 1897. Yesterdays motorcycles. Netherlands. ca 1897 Leon Bollee Tricar-Tricycle . Single cylinder ca 800cc 4-stroke engine Automatic/atmospheric inlet valve Hot tube ignition, so there is no spark plug used for the ignition. Instead of a spark plug ( not yet invented/perfected in 1897 ) there is a hollow tube outside the cylinder head as an extension of the combustion chamber. An external gasoline burner heats up the tube to red hot and this provides the heat/spark to ignite the compressed air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. There is a 3-speed gearbox which works remarkably well. Flat leather belt drive to rear wheel. Braking is by moving the complete rear wheel with drive pulley forward against the brake block. This also reduces the tension on the drive belt and the belt will run free on the front drive pulley. By moving the combined hand lever / gear change lever backwards the belt drive will be tightened ( clutch ) and one is on the move again.

Also known as 'The X-Ray Fiend', this comedy by GA Smith combines two very recent innovations: Wilhelm Roentgen's discovery of X-rays in 1895, and Georges Méliès' accidental realisation of the special-effects potential of the jump-cut in 1896. The central couple is played by the Brighton comedian Tom Green and Smith's wife Laura Bayley, and we know that they were filmed in October 1897 from Smith's cashbook, now preserved in the BFI National Archive. On April 16th of 1897, one of these aerial wanderers was sighted over Denton. Then on April 17th, Aurora, Texas something went wrong; an airship lost altitude, collided with a windmill, and exploded in flames. The Dallas Morning News reported the dead 'spaceman' was buried in Aurora Cemetery at high noon the next day. For too long, this historic event - THE SMOKING GUN OF UFOLOGY - has been overlooked."
