Number 335139, Sipahi Maqbool Hussain was enrolled in Azad Kashmir Regiment on 16th Sep 1960 and posted to 21 Azad Kashmir Regiment, on 30th May 1961. During the 1965 war, he was part of the Force under Captain Sher, now Brigadier (Retired) Sher, 'Sitara-e-Jurat', operating behind enemy lines to disrupt its operations. The Force successfully accomplished its assigned mission and while exfiltrating, Sipahi Maqbool Hussain was seriously injured. He was finally captured by the enemy. All norms were violated by his captors and he was not given the status of a Prisoner of War. He was kept in solitary confinement, subjected to inhuman treatment and tortured. He braved these atrocities because he knew he was a soldier and this was another kind of a war, where he was fighting alone against an Army, an ideology and a nation; to protect and honour of his motherland. Maqbool Hussain was engaged to Naseeran prior to joining his unit. As years went by, his mother kept waiting for his return. His brother and sister prayed day and night and Naseeran was always hopeful that she will be able to see Maqbool one day. His poor mother could not wait long enough, she was buried at the entrance of the village as per her will, so that she would be the first one to greet Maqbool on his return. In 1971 the conspiracy against Pakistan succeeded. His captors forced Maqbool to chant "JAY HIND".
