Title: Korean PM says government will get to bottom of election scandal Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-Won gave his first special statement to the nation earlier Monday, vowing to get to the root of the scandal surrounding last year's presidential elections. Prime Minister Chung said the president did not receive any help from the National Intelligence Service during the election and he stressed the goverment will identify the truth and take necessary actions. Lawmakers have been wrangling over suspicions tthe spy agency launched an online smear campaign ahead of last year's election to sway public opinion in favor of then-presidential candidate Park. The prime minister also asked for joint efforts between the government and lawmakers for the swift passage of legislation aimed at stimulating the economy and improving the lives of the people. Title: Prosecutor General nominee faces many challenges ahead President Park Geun-hye has finally tapped Kim Jin-tae, former deputy chief of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, as new prosecutor general. Kim faces a number of challenges, including the reform of the prosecution and a spiraling spy agency scandal. Our Kim Yeon-ji reports. Prosecutor General nominee Kim Jin-tae has begun preparations for his confirmation hearing, which will be held at the National Assembly next month. He led the prosecution in 2012 as acting prosecutor general after the then-prosecutor general resigned in disgrace over corruption and sex scandals involving several prosecutors and failed attempts to reform the organization. Kim had taken the helm of a prosecution in crisis and quickly restored its tarnished image. Now, Kim has been given a second chance to lead the prosecution, which is again in disarray after former prosecutor general Chae Dong-wook resigned a month ago amid allegations that he fathered a child out of wedlock and questions about his handling of an investigation into allegations that the spy agency meddled in last year's presidential election. The controversy surrounding the case intensified last week after a televised dispute between Yoon Seok-yeol, the lead prosecutor spearheading the probe, and his superior Cho Young-gon, the director of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. Yoon claimed that there was external pressure undermining the spy agency probe, while Cho said that Yoon had failed to follow legal procedure in his handling of the case and had disobeyed orders from his superiors. The prosecutor general nominee again faces the task of cleaning up the prosecution and mitigating the internal strife over the spy agency controversy, which ultimately centers on the legitimacy of the December presidential election. After his nomination was announced, Kim said he feels the utmost responsibility for the prosecution, at a time when it is facing such a daunting crisis. The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said Sunday that President Park Geun-hye nominated Kim for his ability to handle the existing turmoil and bring normalcy to the prosecution. The ruling Saenuri Party has given Kim its approval, citing his experience.
