BMW e46 M3 VANOS Beisan Systems Solution

This is a before and after video I put together once I completed the Beisan Systems solutions. I believe that about 80%, if not more, of the noise I heard on the before video is now gone as a result of performing this work. Also, now that I installed the new oil pump disc with smaller holes I sure sleep better at night. The rattle would begin around 2800-3000 rpm and fade out around 4000 rpm. The solutions I performed on my engine from Beisan Systems include: S54 Vanos Sealing Plate Repair Kit S54 Vanos Seals Repair Kit S54 Vanos Rattle Repair Kit S54 Vanos Oil Pump Disk I hope this is helpful for some of you out there. In this video I show the interface between the BMW S54 vanos exhaust hub tabs and a series of oil pump discs. The difference between the OEM S54 oil pump disc with .6mm tolerance, the S50 oil pump disc with .4mm tolerance, and the Beisan Systems redrilled disc with .15mm tolerance.

Notice there is some chain noise as you rev the engine, and the lack of an obvious "up-step" from the VANOS unit. Admittedly my VANOS unti was not in the worst condition, though you could tell that it was not working at its full potential. Beit She'an (help·info) (Hebrew: בֵּית שְׁאָן‎‎ Beth Šəān; Arabic: بيسان‎, Beesān (help·info), Beisan or Bisan) is a city in the North District of Israel which has played an important role historically due to its geographical location at the junction of the Jordan River Valley and Jezreel Valley. It has also played an important role in modern times, acting as the regional center for the numerous villages in the Beit She'an Valley Regional Council.

Beit She'an's location has often been strategically significant, as it sits at the junction of the Jordan River Valley and the Jezreel Valley, essentially controlling access from the interior to the coast, as well as from Jerusalem to the Galilee.

In 1933, archaeologist G.M. FitzGerald, under the auspices of the University of Pennsylvania Museum, carried out a “deep cut” on Tell el-Hosn, the large mound of Beth Shean in order to determine the earliest occupation of the site. His results suggest that settlement began in the Late Neolithic or Early Chalcolithic periods (sixth to fifth millennia BCE. Occupation continued intermittently up to the late Early Bronze Age I (3200-3000), according to pottery finds, and then resumes in the Early Bronze Age III. A large cemetery on the northern side of the mound was in use from the Bronze Age to Byzantine times.Canaanite graves dating from 2000-1600 BCE were discovered in 1926.

Here is a 'before' video of my M3's S50 engine before installing the prototype Beisan System's VANOS anti-rattle bearing device. Notice there is some chain noise as you rev the engine, and the lack of an obvious "up-step" from the VANOS unit. Admittedly my VANOS unti was not in the worst condition, though you could tell that it was not working at its full potential. Visit our forums at www.e36-tech.com for more BMW 3 series assistance and discussion. This video was taken after i installed the VANOS seal rebuild kit as well as the anti-rattle bearing rebuild kit. Notice that from the start the engine is a lot quieter. The torrential rattling and chain clapping sounds from the VANOS unit have subsided. Also when the camera moves across the valve cover, you will hear that the sounds coming from the engine have evened up, no longer is there a mass of noise coming from the front of the valve cover as there was in the 'before' video.
