Eric Liddell Reads Isaiah
Eric Liddell Reads Isaiah
Eric Liddell, as played by actor Ian Charleson, reads a section from Isaiah, chapter 40, from the film Chariots of Fire (1981). This video is intended as inspiration to those whose faith may at times waiver under the spiritual duress many Christians may experience during their lifetime. It is probably only of interest to Christians. It is important to remember that those who are not Christians will judge Christ, unfairly or otherwise, based upon the behavior of His followers. All too often, as Christians we repel people from Christ because of our hypocrisy, selfishness, and overall lack of humility when dealing with others. Granted, the aforementioned human flaws are not unique to Christians by any means. However, others will be repealed from Christ if we hypocritically preach while simultaneously acting in a fashion counter to our proclaimed beliefs and rules. As Christians we should keep in mind the following: "...we either bring people nearer to Christ, or we repel them from Christ." ----Eric Liddell Therefore, I would urge fellow Christians, myself included, when interacting in casual manner or within the realm of debate to act with charity and honesty.

Chariots of Fire - A Tribute to Eric Liddell
Chariots of Fire - A Tribute to Eric Liddell
During the summer of 1924, the Olympics were hosted by the city of Paris. Liddell was a committed Christian and refused to run on Sunday (the Christian Sabbath), with the consequence that he was forced to withdraw from the 100 meters race, his best event. The schedule had been published several months earlier, and his decision was made well before the Games began. Liddell spent the intervening months training for the 400 meters, an event in which he had previously excelled. Even so, his success in the 400m was largely unexpected. The day of 400 meters race came, and as Liddell went to the starting blocks, an American masseur slipped a piece of paper into Liddell's hand with a quotation from 1 Samuel 2:30, "Those who honor me I will honor." He not only won the race, but broke the existing world record with a time of 47.6 seconds. A few days earlier Liddell had competed in the 200 metre finals, for which he received the bronze medal behind Americans Jackson Scholz and Charles Paddock, beating Harold Abrahams, who finished in sixth place. (This was the second and last race in which these two runners met.) Soundtrack from Chariots of Fire (c) 1981 - Vangelis Src: Partially taken from Wikipedia (Open source information)

Most of the subtitle material in the video is taken directly from the monument where it is found in English and Chinese.
