Mazda are a major japanese car maker, with a presence in Australia for over 40 years. Family cars and sporty coupes feature across the Mazda car range. Small and medium cars such as the Mazda3 and Mazda2 are popular sellers in Australia, and the Mazda6 is a serious competitor in the medium family space. The Mazda MX5 is one of the most well known convertibles in Australia, well regarded for it's tight handling and distinctive shape. Mazda make the only rotary-powered sports car on the market, the RX8, and the CX7 is a mid size SUV introduced in 2007. In late 2008, Ford sold a large portion of it's stake in Mazda relinquishing control of the company. Mazda won the 1991 Le Mans race with their 787B racer; the only non-piston-engined car ever to win at Le Mans. A hybrid Mazda is known to be under development, and up to 30% of the Mazda5 is planned to be made of bio-materials.
