Athens: A municipal building granted to a neo-Nazi gang

A few days ago the municipal administration of Athens, having as pioneer the mayor Giorgos Kaminis, conceded a municipal building on 159, Filolaou Street to the Nazi gang Chrissi Avgi (Golden Dawn), in order to accommodate their party offices. The particular office was designed for the needs of the regional school committees, and despite the unanimous conviction from the second communal council, the keys were handed in to the fascists.

In the spring of 2009 para-state members of Chrissi Avgi took over a playground in Aghios Panteleimonas Square, which resulted in the trampling of the vitality of hundreds of both local and immigrant kids. As if this was not enough, they put on the daily agenda of the neighbourhood beatings, intolerance, racism and the recruiting of young children from nearby schools. And unfortunately they don’t stop there. Their rich resume includes murderous assaults on immigrants and refugees, the bullying of youths in squares and public places, as well as the targeting of social fighters, squats and social spaces.

The fascists aspire to be established at the offices of Filolaou Street, in order to acquire another base for their terrorist activity. They wish to sow undisturbed in our neighbourhoods the seeds of social cannibalism and terror, where at the same time large parts of the society stand up and fight collectively. They wish to poison the society with racial hatred and nationalistic bursts, while class inequalities are growing and social injustice deepens. It’s no coincidence that last May they took advantage of the tragic death of Manolis Kantaris, in order to sow terror in downtown Athens. Furthermore, it’s no coincidence that in the anti-memorandum demonstration of June 28th and while the police forces were trying to disperse the decisive crowd of demonstrators with the use of chemicals and batons, members of Chrissi Avgi embraced tight with the police squads (MAT) that actually smuggled them into the courtyard of the Greek parliament, in order to protect their fascist buddies from the wrath of the crowd.

ARE WE WILLING TO TOLERATE THE NAZIS ACTING UNDISTURBED IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOODS?

To poverty, unemployment, wretchedness we answer with solidarity.

To racism and social segregation we answer with common self-organized struggles of locals and immigrants, young and old, workers and unemployed.

To cannibalism and alienation we answer with collectivity.

The struggle against fascism is a matter of life and dignity.
Not a single inch to the enemies of freedom.

FASCISM IS NOT A SPECTACLE IN NEWS BULLETINS!
NEITHER IN PAGKRATI, NOR ANYWHERE
KICK FASCISTS OUT OF EVERY NEIGHBOURHOOD!

New transfer of a member of the R.O. Conspiracy of Cells of Fire

On August 9th, Giorgos Polidoros was moved in handcuffs from Corfu closed prison to Grevena general detention facility, in a disciplinary transfer. At first the jailers of Grevena prison attempted a full body pat-down while the comrade was still handcuffed. He resisted, and the jailers were forced to back off, but they charged him with a new disciplinary offense of insubordination.

Currently he is confined in the prison’s guardhouse. After an intervention by both him and the inmates from E2 wing (where comrade Christos Tsakalos is incarcerated), the prison service and the sergeant Yannis Ramogiannis committed themselves to move Giorgos Polidoros after the disciplinary penalty’s end (he’s punished for five days) in the particular wing. We are following the case…

Peru: Police kills at least six protesters during a demonstration in Juliaca city

On June 24th, 2011, the Peruanian police killed at least six protesters and injured more than 30 people during a demonstration against the Ramis River’s contamination from the region’s mines in Juliaca, southern Peru.

At about 11 am, residents blockaded the road leading to the city’s airport and tried to break its perimeter. Fully armed repressive forces of the National Police, and in particular the commandos of DINOES (special operations unit) opened fire against the crowd.

At about 12.00 the first fatal shots were reported while the shooting by uniformed killers continued until late afternoon, leaving dead Víctor Campos Huanca, Felix Edwin Irpanoca Turpo, Raúl Cancapa Huaricallo, Petronila Coa Huanca, Gregorio Huamán Mamani and one more person who has not been identified.

The clashes between locals and cops continued until late evening when a large number of demonstrators gathered in downtown Juliaca and attacked commercial centres and other capitalist targets.

A well-founded fear of the residents is that more demonstrators’ corpses have vanished once again by the Peruanian police, and that the total number of dead people is larger.

The regime’s media tried to justify the cops and their political assignors, presenting the protesters as outlaw and violent. The truth lies elsewhere, however. The Peruanian State and its executioners are guilty of countless crimes against nature and mankind. In the context of good cooperation with multinational companies of oil, mineral and gas extraction, as well as mega-contractors of infrastructure projects for the alleged development in Latin America, the Peruanian State systematically pursues the catastrophe of Amazonia, the poisoning of people living on Peru’s territory, and the expulsion and vanishment of isolated indigenous communities from their traditional lands.

Gregorio Huamán Mamani (56), murdered by the Peruanian State

The convenient murders of demonstrators serve the looting of Amazonia and the plundering of natural and human resources whenever those are not accomplished via excavation and drilling.

Athens: Revolutionary Struggle trial begins on October 5th, 2011

International call for solidarity
with the Revolutionary Struggle

The 5th of October has been set as the day that the trial of the Revolutionary Organization Revolutionary Struggle will begin. The trial will take place in the court room of Koridallos prisons.

Eight accused will stand trial, who according to a recent order of the Council of Appeals will be tried for participation in the organization.

Accused in the case of the Revolutionary Struggle are: N.Maziotis, P.Roupa, K.Gournas, Ch.Kortesis, V.Stathopoulos, S.Nikitopoulos, K.K. (not arrested; he’s on run) and M.Beraha (K.Gournas wife).

The first three accused, Maziotis, Roupa and Gournas, have taken responsibility for the organization and remain imprisoned, but in mid October the 18month detention period expires. The rest of the accused are free.

Kortesis, Stathopoulos and Nikitopoulos were released from prison on terms recently, after two decisions of the judges of the Council of Appeals, since the Supreme Court applied a recantation on the first and another was made that ratified the decisions of the appeals judges.

The charges of each individual concern the felonies of constitution and participation in a terrorist organisation, supply manufacture and possession of explosive materials, explosions and numerous attempted homicides.

Revolutionary Struggle has made many attacks, among which the rocket launcher attack on the American embassy, on January 12th, 2007 and the armed attack on cops on Bouboulinas street on January 5th, 2009.

Revolutionary Struggle are thought to be responsible for the following attacks, all in Athens:

  • September 5, 2003: Bombing at courthouse.
  • March 14, 2004: Bombing at Citibank subsidiary in Psychico neighborhood.
  • May 5, 2004: Bombing at police station in Perissos neighborhood.
  • October 29, 2004: Bombing of police buses.
  • June 2, 2005: Bombing at Labor Ministry.
  • December 12, 2005: Bombing at Finance Ministry in Syntagma Square, near Parliament.
  • May 30, 2006: Attempted assassination of Georgios Voulgarakis, former Minister of Public Order and Minister of Culture.
  • January 12, 2007: Wasp 58 LAW rocket attack on United States Embassy.
  • April 30, 2007: Shots fired at police station in Nea Ionia neighborhood.
  • October 24, 2008: Bombing at Shell offices in Palaio Faliro neighborhood.
  • December 23, 2008: Shots fired at riot police bus near Athens University in Goudi neighborhood.
  • January 5, 2009: Shots fired at police guarding Culture Ministry in Exarcheia neighborhood. One riot cop critically wounded.
  • February 18, 2009: Car bombing at Citibank headquarters in Kifissia neighborhood. Bomb fails to detonate.
  • March 9, 2009: Bombing at Citibank subsidiary in Nea Ionia neighborhood.
  • May 12, 2009: Bombing at Eurobank subsidiary in Argyroupoli neighborhood.
  • September 2, 2009: Car bombing causes serious damage to Stock Exchange building.

The three comrades who took responsibility for the actions of Revolutionary Struggle show that fighting for what you believe in is not a task that only the “elite” can take on. Its in everyone that has suffered in the system that has been created to control us. The state knows they are the real terrorists and as long as no one is fighting back they have nothing to fear. Its time to show them enough is enough and attack it with all means available.

Action of solidarity with Skaramaga squat

Yesterday, August 2nd, members of Contra Info put up an English banner in solidarity with Skaramaga squat at the yard of Athens Polytechnic School (Polytechnio), in Patission street. Also, the following counter-information text regarding the police raid in Skaramaga squat — in English and French — was distributed during the solidarity gathering at Monastiraki square:

STATE AND BOSSES LISTEN TO THIS WELL
HANDS OFF SKARAMAGA SQUAT

On Friday morning, July 29th, 2011, in downtown Athens the repressive and persecutory forces of the Greek State once again performed a military style operation.

Murderers in uniforms — aka the Greek police — raided an anarchist squat at the junction of Patission 61 and Skaramaga streets, blocking the building for almost five hours and calling in a delegate of the ‘legitimate’ owner, the Mariners’ Retirement Fund (ΝΑΤ). The cops confiscated all the computers and an internet server from the squat’s workshop. Also, one squatter who had entered in order to be present during the investigations, was arrested and held in Omonia police department. He has been charged with three misdemeanours and was not released before Saturday, while his trial date was set for August 10th.

This police operation did not come out of the blue. In this particular downtown area, the anarchist squats Villa Amalias and Skaramaga had come under attack by cops and fascists during May, in the midst of fierce attacks against immigrants in the centre of Athens with devotees of fascism abusing the brutal murder of Manolis Kantaris, while neo-Nazi groups launched pogroms injuring a total of hundreds of immigrants, and fatally stabbed the Bangladeshian Alim Abdul Manan. Updates about the anarchist arrested during the police raid on Skaramaga squat

About 100 people in solidarity with the anarchist arrested during the attempted eviction of Skaramanga squat, gathered today (July 30) at the Evelpidon Courthouse in Athens. The comrade charged with three misdemeanors has been released and a new trial date was set for August 10.

A solidarity and counter-information gathering regarding the cops’ raid on Skaramaga squat has been called for Tuesday, August 2, at 19.00 at Monastiraki square.

Syntagma square tent occupation evicted by police in the early hours of Saturday

At approximately 4.15 a.m. on Saturday, 30.7, heavy riot police forces entered Syntagma square, destroying and removing the tents that where set up there. At least eight people were arrested. This follows the order by attorney general Eleni Raikou for the tents at Syntagma and the “promise” of mayor Kaminis that the tents at Syntagma would be removed within days, as they tarnish Athens’ image during the tourist period.

A gathering has been called for tonight at 6pm and today’s general assembly will take place at 9pm, as normal.
