Richard P. Nelson

Welcome to the home page of Richard Nelson. I am a Professor of Astronomy and Mathematics in the Astronomy Unit, School of Mathematical Sciences, Queen Mary, University of London. My research focuses on the formation and evolution of planetary systems, the dynamics of astrophysical discs, and numerical astrophysics. I teach both undergraduate and postgraduate lecture courses in mathematics and astronomy.

RESEARCH INTERESTS TEACHING IN 2009/2010
Planet formation

Current research projects include:

  • Planet formation in turbulent, magnetised protoplanetary discs
  • Planet formation in close binary systems
  • The roles of migration and accretion in determining planetary system architecture
  • Extrasolar Planets and Astrophysical Discs (ASTM735)
