Few R.I. same-sex couples hold rites in month after new law
PROVIDENCE - A new state law that allows same-sex couples to join in civil unions prompted only a small number of takers during the month of July. In all, nine same-sex couples formalized their commitments to one another during the month, the first in which they could enter into marriage-like agreements with their partners. Two ceremonies took place in Providence, two took place in Newport, and there was one each in Burrillville, Cranston, Little Compton, North Providence and Pawtucket, said...
