The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS Review

By Torrey Holbrook Walker | Nintendo DS Reviews | Jun 17, 2011 3:30 PM | Comment

I never played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. In fact, by the time I realized it's one of the most highly scored games of all-time, I had already finished both The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. With expectations based on its successors, how does Ocarina of Time hold up 13 years after its original release? Outclassed as it is by its descendants, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS still stands in a class of its own among modern adventures. Read More »

How Nintendo Killed 3DS Interest in 9 Easy Steps

By Nathan Birch | Nintendo DS Humor | Jun 3, 2011 11:00 AM | Comment

Last year at E3 Expo 2010, Nintendo revealed the 3DS to the world, and shockingly, everyone in attendance went crazy over the thing. Folks who write about video games love criticizing Nintendo almost as much as they love neckbeards and jorts, but praise for the machine was pretty much universal. Yes, hype was at an all-time high... but in the year since, Nintendo seems to have been on a mission to systemically kill interest in the machine, to the point where it's now regularly being outsold by the dated DSi (and in Japan, the freaking PSP). Could Nintendo turn things around next week at E3 Expo 2011? Certainly -- but the game titan better have something big up its sleeves, because at the moment, only the "M" on Mario's hat is visible above the edge of the hole that's been dug... Read More »

PilotWings Resort Review

By Nathan Meunier | Nintendo DS Reviews | Mar 24, 2011 11:00 AM | Comment

Cracking open the crisp cellophane on a fresh copy of the original PilotWings 20 years ago, I remember getting pleasantly lost in the pixilated clouds and skydiving to my doom over and over again -- but not until after I'd already clocked dozens of hours in Super Mario World, F-Zero, and SimCity first. The launch line-up for Nintendo's 3DS isn't peppered with nearly as many mouth-watering first-party offerings, so the fact that PilotWings Resort feels like little more than a beefy tech demo to showcase the system's glasses-free 3D is probably a moot point. People will buy it, dig it for a few hours, and then twiddle their thumbs until something better comes along. But is it still fun? Definitely. Read More »

Okamiden Review

By Torrey Holbrook Walker | Nintendo DS Reviews | Mar 22, 2011 3:00 PM | Comment

Okami is my favorite game. From its storybook art style and lovable characters to its intricate dungeons and epic boss encounters, Okamiden's predecessor has more crowning moments of awesome than you can shake a paintbrush at. Hence, it couldn't have been easy for a new development team to remain true to Okami's pedigree (on substantially less-powerful hardware) with this sequel. However, while falling noticeably short of its forebear's breathtaking highs, Okamiden's streamlined execution still makes for a solid and charming Zelda-esque adventure. Read More »

With the 3DS nearly in gamers' sweaty, trembling hands, Nintendo has graciously revealed some of what we'll eventually see on the system.
