Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light Guide

by Jason Venter

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light is a classic RPG that beckons back to the days of old school role-playing without ever really expecting as much as some of the earliest titles in the franchise did. Still, there are plenty of adventures, plenty of battles against powerful bosses, maze-like dungeons and all sorts of other attractions that can catch a new adventurer unawares. This guide will help you through each of those possible pitfalls, carrying you from the opening scenes to the closing credits while taking necessary detours to help you gather the most exciting goodies along the way. With us by your side, your quest to free the village of Horne from a witch's curse will be mere child's play!

Common Questions & Answers
What is the keycode for the door in the therapy wing of Inner Persephone?
Listen to the Legs, Mouths, Arms and Eye audio diary and you'll get a clue for the password. Using the order that he lists the clues—brown legs, red mouths, blue arms, green eyes—count the numbers of described body parts on the paintings in the room. The door code is 4146. Getting into the room gives you access to some ammo and stuff, not much else.
What's the best party to use in the game?
Early on, the game will hint at what party members you should use and your options will be limited by the game's plot. Typically, you will want to have a White Mage in your party, and often a Black Mage. As the game progresses, you'll eventually be able to use larger parties and you'll gain gems that you can use to fully upgrade character classes. At that point, you can either have fun playing around with the different character classes, or you can create a party of three Black Mage characters along with one White Mage. That particular party is nearly unstoppable. We cover that in more detail in the 'Basics' section of this guide. If you don't feel like playing cheaply, then your party should still have a White Mage or other healer, and it should still have a Black Mage, but you can also play around with the Fighter class and other more interesting classes.
How do I defeat the Sand Devil in Quicksand Castle?
In the desert town of Guera, the people whisper of a devil in the nearby castle. There's also word that the king has confiscated water magic. That's unfortunate, because you need that magic to easily defeat the devil. Head outside of Guera until nightfall, then enter and make your way to the palace's upper levels. Head to the west or east wing, where previously guards were posted. They wouldn't let you in by daylight, but now they're gone. Enter the door and descend some stairs to find a dungeon area. If you work your way to the end, you'll find water-based magic. Now you can equip that on your Black Mage character. Head to the Quicksand Castle and when you find yourself battling the devil at the end, use your magic to temporarily freeze the flow of sand so that you can attack him. You'll have to use the spell several times throughout the battle to keep the devil slowed so that you can harm him and so that he won't wipe out your party members. With water on your side, it's a much easier battle.
