Rexburg City Council tour town - in depth look at public issues
REXBURG - The Rexburg City Council spoke to handfuls of department heads and project managers at sites across the city, discussing problems, solutions, and looking toward future growth. The council got a first hand look at all kinds of city issues. After following them for a day and seeing just how many issues they have to handle, you get a pretty good idea what it's like to walk in the shoes of a city council member. The city council started their tour by speaking with the fire and police chiefs. It's those personal visits that go a long way. "They do care. We have that feeling, my entire department has that feeling. We appreciate them stopping by," said Rexburg Police Chief Lynn Archibald. The council then walked across the street to Westwood Theater. "It's important because they see first hand what we're doing. This is such a wonderful building, that is going to be of great use to the city," said Roger Harris with the Westwood Theater. A lot has happened recently to the nearly 100-year old theater, including a new stage and new foyer. The theater has been owned by the city since 2004. Donna Benfield presented Harris with a 100 dollar check from a chamber of commerce fundraiser to help with replacement windows at the Rexburg Tabernacle. "Every little bit helps, honest," said city council member Donna Benfield. The city council then visited the water and sewage treatment plant, where they were received with some good news.
