Dozens of bodies found 'executed' in Syria
The bodies of at least 80 young men and boys, all executed with a single gunshot to the head or neck, have been found in a river in the Syrian city of Aleppo, a watchdog and rebels said.
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 65 bodies were found in the Quweiq River, which separates the Bustan al-Qasr district from Ansari in the southwest of the city, but that the toll could rise significantly.
A Free Syrian Army fighter at the scene said the death toll is higher, pointing out that many more bodies were still being dragged from the water, in a rebel-held area.
"Until now we have recovered 68 bodies, some of them just teens," said Captain Abu Sada, adding that all of them had been "executed by the regime."
"But there must be more than 100. There are still many in the water, and we are trying to recover them."
A senior government security source said many of the victims were from Bustan al-Qasr and had been reported kidnapped earlier.
He accused "terrorists" of carrying out the executions and spreading propaganda to deflect responsibility.
"They were kidnapped by terrorist groups, who some are accusing of being pro-regime, and executed last night in a park in Bustan al-Qasr under their control," the source said by telephone.
"Now these terrorist groups are creating a media campaign, showing the bodies being recovered from the Quweiq River in an area under their control."
"It has been confirmed that a number of the victims had been abducted by armed terrorist groups and their families had made repeated attempts to negotiate their releases."
"We will disclose the identities of those killed as soon as we are able to secure the bodies, which is a difficult process since the area is in the hands of terrorist groups," the source said.
A volunteer said as he helped load one of the bodies on a truck: "We don't know who they are because there was no ID on them.
Abu Sada said they would be taken to the hospital at Zarzur where relatives could seek to identify them.
"Those who are not identified will be buried in a common grave," noting that some were unrecognisable because of the impact of the bullet.
Meanwhile, people were gathering at the bank seeking lost relatives.
"My brother disappeared weeks ago when he was crossing (through) the regime-held zone, and we don't know where he is or what has become of him," said Mohammed Abdel Aziz, as he looked at the mud-covered bodies one by one.
"They could have been executed a couple of days ago and the current brought the bodies this far," an FSA fighter, Abu Anas, said.
The 129-kilometre river originates in Turkey to the north and flows to the southwest of Aleppo, traversing both regime and rebel-held areas.
"This is not the first time that we have found the bodies of people executed, but so many, never," he says numbly, as he examines the body of a boy of about 12 with a gunshot wound to the back of the neck.
"The shabiha (pro-government militia) seize people crossing the checkpoint.... and they torture and execute many of them," said Abu Anas.
All look to be young men, some teens, wearing jeans, button-up shirts and sneakers.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - At least 65 people, apparently shot in the head, were found dead with their hands bound in a district of the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Tuesday, activists said.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which says it provides objective information about casualties on both sides of Syria's war from a network of monitors, said the death toll could rise as high as 80. It was not clear who had carried out the killings.
Opposition activists posted a video of a man filming at least 51 muddied male bodies alongside what they said was the Queiq River in the rebel-held Bustan al-Qasr neighborhood of Aleppo.
The bodies had gunshot wounds to their heads, and their hands were bound. Blood was seeping from their heads and some of them appeared to be young, possibly teenagers, and dressed in jeans, shirts and sneakers.
The Queiq River rises in Turkey and travels through government-held districts of Aleppo before it reaches Bustan al-Qasr.
"They were killed only because they are Muslims," said a bearded man in another video said to have been filmed in central Bustan al-Qasr after the bodies were removed from the river. A pickup truck with a pile of corpses was parked behind him.
It is hard for Reuters to verify such reports from inside Syria because of restrictions on independent media.
Government forces and rebels in Syria have both been accused by human rights groups of carrying out summary executions in the 22-month-old conflict, which has claimed more than 60,000 lives.
Rebels pushed into Aleppo, Syria's most populous city, over the summer, but are stuck in a stalemate with government forces. The city is divided roughly in half between the two sides.
The revolt started as a peaceful protest movement against more than four decades of rule by President Bashar al-Assad and his family, but turned into an armed rebellion after a government crackdown.

Family members arrived in their hundreds to identify missing sons, saying many had disappeared after crossing from rebel-held territory in Aleppo into regime areas on the other side of the river.
Residents said that there had been an attempt by the government to reclaim Bustan al-Qasr the day before, and that in the fight rebels had killed several soldiers.
"When this happened, the loyalist militias that have formed checkpoints on the government side started arresting people whose identity cards showed they were from liberated areas," said one, Wael Ibrahim, 30. "It is clear they were not being kept in a prison because they still have their belts on their clothes and these are removed usually before people are put in jail."
Regime sources blamed the rebels for the deaths, saying those killed had been "abducted by terrorists" and that their relatives had been trying to negotiate their release. But that was not the story told by the relatives choosing the bodies for burial.
"I hope that Bashar al-Assad and all his family are killed in the same way, and that they go missing like dogs," screamed one old woman, from the crowd.

Syria militants kill men execution style , video shows
by : syria news : https://www.facebook.com/syria.news.news
Footage shows a group of foreign-backed militants in Syria kill four men in execution style, Press TV reports.
The victims, who allegedly had links with Syrian security forces, were executed in the Bab al-Neirab neighborhood of the northwestern city of Aleppo.
The video was posted by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is based in London.
On January 29, Syrian security forces discovered the bodies of more than 80 people in the city.
The bodies of young men and boys, killed execution-style, were found in the Quweiq River, southwest of Aleppo, which is under the control of the militants.
A large number of similar executions have been carried out by the militant groups over the past months, drawing condemnation from human rights groups.
However, the West and some regional countries that support the militants have failed to condemn the killings.
The crisis began in Syria in March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed ever since.
On Saturday, an explosive device planted underneath a vehicle detonated near al-Hijaz Square in the capital, Damascus. One person was killed and two others injured in the bombing.
The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the armed groups. There are also reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
Several international human rights organizations have also accused the militants of committing war crimes.
The UN Refugee Agency said on February 1 that nearly 45,000 displaced Syrians were living in "appalling" conditions in an area of the north of the country held by militants.

Free Syrian army vs al assad = 70.000 new graves
UN envoy says the country "is being destroyed bit by bit" as nearly 70 bodies of executed men are found in Aleppo.

The Syrian conflict has reached "unprecedented levels of horror", Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN-Arab League envoy to Syria, has said in remarks that came just hours after dozens of people were found shot dead in Aleppo city in what is being called a "new massacre".
A breakdown of total number of Syrian refugees (714,118) spread across neighbouring countries:
He told the UN Security Council on Tuesday that it must now act to halt the carnage, epitomised in the latest instance by the nearly 70 young men and boys, each killed with a single bullet and dumped in a river in the conflict-wracked northern city.
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 65 bodies were found in the Quweiq River, which separates the Bustan al-Qasr district from Ansari in the southwest of the city, but that the toll could rise significantly.
Syrian rebels have blamed President Bashar al-Assad's government for the killings, but state media said an opposition faction was to blame.
"The country is breaking up before everyone's eyes," Brahimi was quoted as saying by diplomats inside the closed-door meeting.
He told the Security Council that "Syria is being destroyed bit by bit" and his mediation effort cannot go forward unless the council unites to push the Syrian government and opposition forces toward some compromise.
Brahimi's warning came on a day international donors pledged about $1bn at a UN conference in Kuwait City for Syria's neighbours sheltering abouot 700,000 refugees.
An additional $500m will be sought to finance humanitarian work for about four million Syrians inside their country.
Kuwaiti pledge
Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al Sabah inaugurated the conference with a pledge of $300m in aid for Syrians.
"Due to the great sufferings of the Syrian people and to help ensure the success of the conference, I announce the Kuwaiti donation of $300m for the Syrian people," he said.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have each pledged $300m to the aid effort.
Also addressing the conference, UN chief Ban Ki-moon called for urgent financial aid, warning that if funds were not forthcoming "more Syrians will die".
"The situation in Syria is catastrophic," the UN chief said as he urged all parties to the conflict to "stop the killings".

Envoy urges UN action over 'horror' in Syria
UN and Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has told the Security Council that Syria is on the verge of "breaking up" and that his mediation effort could end unless the council unites to push opposing sides toward compromise.
Syria's war has reached "unprecedented levels of horror", said UN-Arab League mediator Lakhdar Brahimi on Tuesday after dozens of men were found slaughtered just ahead of a donors' conference for the devastated country.
Brahimi told the divided UN Security Council Tuesday it had to act immediately to halt the carnage epitomized by the at least 78 young men, each killed with a single bullet and dumped in the Quweiq River in the battlefront city of Aleppo.
Hundreds of distressed people watched as muddied corpses were dredged from the river.
