Welcome
to the site of the Program on Electron
Beam Technology (PEBT) at Kent State University. The PEBT was established
as a result of a university-industry partnership between Kent State
University (KSU) and Mercury Plastics Inc (MPI), a local producer of
specialized plastic products.
The
partnership resulted in the design and construction of a facility
(NEO Beam Alliance Ltd) at whose core is a powerful (150 kW) 5 MeV
electron accelerator (Dynamitron). Access to the beam is split
between KSU and MPI on an equal basis (50% each).
The PEBT represents the formal mechanism that the university has
established in order to fulfill the educational, research, and
outreach components of its mission. Through the PEBT, Kent
State University prepares a qualified workforce, supports academic
(basic and applied) and industrial research and development (R&D),
and makes available this technology to both existing and potential
users in the field of radiation processing. In this manner,
KSU contributes directly and meaningfully to the economic
development of Ohio.
We
hope that you will take the time to explore this site (still under
construction!) and become
familiar with the range of activities that the faculty, staff, and
students associated to the PEBT are engaged in.
