What is the purpose of this movement? SGI-USA is the American branch of an international organization of Buddhist peace activists, holding NGO status with the United Nations and supporting such initiatives as the Earth Charter, as well as other human rights and environmental protection initiatives. Based on the teachings of Nichiren Buddhism — a philosophy that places highest value on respecting the sanctity of all life — practitioners engage in "human revolution," a lifelong process of inner transformation and efforts to live in a confident and value-creative way. The practice emphasizes the simultaneity of individual happiness and the betterment of society. During the summer of 2008, five groups of Belgian teenagers were chosen by an Amnesty International competition to spend time with human rights defenders across the world. Each group spent two weeks working with local NGOs to understand the human rights realities on the ground. They went to Guatemala, Burkina Faso, Argentina, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Working with producer Yvon Lammens, the teenagers created a video report about their activities. The youngsters tackled themes central Amnesty Internationals work: womens rights, child soldiers, the right to education, the importance of memory and the fight against impunity, land rights, respect for minorities and indigenous people, and freedom of expression. DARE Video 12: Ade Sofola is Director of Youth Act, an initiative aimed at engaging young people in political processes. PrYSM started on November 8, 2001 with an open-mic at Elmwood Community Center; within one year, PrYSM became a full-fledged movement against the unjust deportation of Cambodian Americans. PrYSM became a 501c3 non-profit in 2004. By 2010, PrYSM has served and empowered over 600 youth; and touched and connected to over 100000s of individuals, in RI, across the nation, and internationally. We helped out with a half dozen deportation cases through immigration court, launched two marches and two protests, and brought deportation to the attention of the mainstream press (and the Vientiane Times in Laos). We reversed a Governor's order to lay-off the State's Southeast Asian interpreters and translators, as well as got the School Department to start translating vital school documents. We built a Queer Southeast Asian identity through starting the first LGBTQ SEA group, the first national Queer SEA conference, and the first ever study of LGBTQ Southeast Asians. We fought and won against the Attorney General's office multiple attempts to create gang-enhancement laws. And now were running a campaign for youth rights under the aggressive law enforcement practices of the City's Gang Unit and their use of the Gang Database. The World Citizens for Human Rights Defenders project was developed by the AI Belgium Youth Programme. It is framed by the Global Human Rights Strategy, the International Youth Strategy and the ethical principles of the organisation. Over a thousand young individuals across the Asia-Pacific region took took part in an APYN activity called APYN Meet on MDGS that aimed to tackle the link between the Millennium Development Goals and Human Rights last 17-19 September 2010. Young activists from the region shared their views on MDGs and discussed with fellow youth why Human Rights need to be included in the MDGs and how to make sure Human Rights sit on the very core of one of the most important global plans to end poverty as they answered five important questions about the MDGs: 1. What can you buy with $US 1.25 (a day) in your hometown? 2. Please list the MDGs in order of importance to you 3. Which human rights in the UDHR are NOT covered by the MDGs 4. If you were the leader of your country, how would you include human rights in the MDGs? 5. What is one thing you can do to make the MDGs real? The campaign also aimed to provide a tool which can be used by youth across the region to continue their human rights work for the realization of the MDGs. And in the texts from the ancient city of Mari in present day Syria in the 18th century BC and in the ugaritic text from Ugarit (Ras Shamra). The Arameans are mention in 3 different sources 1) the Old Testament in the Bible 2) The Assyrian cuneiform inscriptions, and 3) Aramaic inscriptions. 1.The Arameans as people, possess a nations all capacities such as a language, as well cultural and ethnical identity. But its an oppressed people, whose original land is divided between occupational forces. The Aramean people have been a subject for the most brutal massacre known in our modern history. Youth Service For Change is an up in coming nonprofit. The concept behind Youth Service For Change is through community service, teens will build a stronger community, gain leadership skills and create change. By working with teens and figuring out on a one to one basis what each individuals skills and passion are, Youth Service For Change will act as a liaison between teens and local non-profits. In addition we would work with teens on what is realistic, considering their work load, extra circulars, and social life. Also for children attending public schools, whose school's due to the downward spiraling economy have lost funding for art's and sports programs, Youth Service for Change would serve as a bridge to local free activities for teens. This April 9 or 10th, to celebrate the launch of Youth Service For Change, we are hosting a fundraiser, Dance For The Future. The event is a night full of live music and dancing open to teens across the San Francisco Bay Area. The goal of the fundraiser is to reach out to teens and educate them on issues and opportunities currently with in the community while uniting under one roof to take a stand for change. *Disclaimer* I am a fifteen year old trying to make a difference. The YMCA of Greater Vancouver invites you to attend the Power of Peace Awards at 7:30 pm on May 1, 2009 at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts. The YMCA Power of Peace Awards is an opportunity to celebrate local individuals and organizations whose work strengthens communities through the promotion of peace. Since 1987 the YMCA has awarded YMCA Peace Medals to individuals and groups who promote peace through cross-cultural understanding, diversity, equality, human rights, social justice and the prevention of violence and war. This years categories include Local Peacemaker, International Peacemaker, Youth Peacemaker (18 & under) and Emerging Leader Peacemaker (19-30). Author of Shake Hands with the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda, L. General Roméo Dallaire, is our keynote speaker. He will discuss leadership and conflict resolution based on his experiences as the Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission to Rwanda during one of the worst genocides of the 20th century. Our emcee is Lynn Colliar, a Morning News anchor on Global BC. The evening will also feature the 2009 Peace Medal recipients and local talent - Joe Given, Kunaka Youth Marimba, Miyanda and Freshh (2007 World Hip Hop Junior Champions from Fresh Groove Productions). A portion of the proceeds from the Power of Peace Awards ceremony will also go to the YMCA of Greater Vancouvers annual campaign, Partners With Youth, to help support the Youth Peace Network (YPN).
