Authorities in restive Indian Kashmir placed separatist leaders under house arrest to thwart a rally marking the anniversaries of the killing of two of the independence movement's key figures. It was the first time in over two decades that authorities in the revolt-hit Muslim-majority region did not allow separatist leaders to hold the annual event to honour Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone.
