In 1947 she founded Fatburger under its original name Mr. Fatburger. In 1952, Yancey shed both her business partners and the "Mr." from the name of the hamburger stand, and Fatburger was officially born. From the beginning, Yancey was a fixture at the original Fatburger, where customers, who included entertainers such as Redd Foxx and Ray Charles, could custom-order their burgers. Yancey always claimed "I don't worry about McDonald's, Burger King or Wendy's, They may be more popular, but a good hamburger sells itself, and I don't think anybody makes as good a hamburger as we do."

Fatburger is a fast casual restaurant chain. It uses the slogan The Last Great Hamburger Stand. While it is a fast food restaurant, the food is cooked and made to order and the restaurant has a liquor license. Its headquarters are in Santa Monica, California. It has a fairly complex franchise agreement that all who buy into the company must comply with it but does clone most other franchises, that operate in the U.S.
In addition to the United States, the chain operates in Canada, China, the UAE, Kuwait and various other countries.
History
Fatburger was founded by Lovie Yancey in Los Angeles, California in 1952. Although Fatburger was established in 1952, "Mr. Fatburger" was the original name dating back to 1947. Ms. Yancey died on 26 January 2008, according to Fatburger's parent owner, Fog Cutter Capital Group, Inc.The company remained mostly a California chain until the late 1990s, when it began an expansion in North America. There are currently 95 Fatburger restaurants, including four outlets in Asia, three in the United Arab Emirates, one in Indonesia and one in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. More restaurants are expected to be opened all around the Middle East by the first franchisee in the Middle East, Khalil Asfour.
Forbes Magazine published an article on 15 October 2007 titled "Celebrities love Fatburger - Juicy Tale" promoting all the Hollywood celebrities who have bought into the global giant.
Partnerships
Former professional basketball player Magic Johnson, through Johnson Development Corporation, was one of the owners of the parent company. Former talk show host Montel Williams co-owns several Fatburger restaurants in Colorado. Bay Area rapper E-40 also had a stake in the company as a franchise owner, by opening the first San Francisco Bay Area Fatburger restaurant in Pleasant Hill, which is now closed. On August 15, 2003, Fog Cutter Capital Group, Inc., owned by Andrew Wiederhorn, completed a $6 million investment and financing package for Fatburger Holdings, Inc. ("Fatburger"). Fatburger currently operates or franchises 93 hamburger stands.

In 2006, Orlando Brown who played for the Baltimore Ravens, signed on for restaurants around Washington D.C. earlier in 2007.
Hollywood Moguls
Rapper Kanye West's restaurant company opened Fatburger restaurants in Orland Park. In Feb of 2011, West shut down his Fatburger restaurant in Chicago . Other known celebs such as Beverly. Hip-hop musician Pharrell, in partnership with Fatburger, opened several Fatburger restaurants in China in 2007 and 2008.

First in sports
In 2008, Fatburger opened its restaurant in the first sports stadium, Arizona Diamondbacks Chase Field. Local ball players such as former baseball star Luis Gonzalez (outfielder) and baseball legend Mark Grace frequent it often. Many believe that it is going to open in all the sports stadiums throughout the United States and abroad in the UK soccer arenas. On April 12, 2011, Diamondbacks MLB player Justin Upton smacked a 3-homerun right into the Fat Burger stand at Chase Field. After his home run, he told the owner of the franchise establishment Marcus Walberg, he wanted a burger named after him. The airing of the home run appeared on nationally syndicated ESPN and the local Arizona airwaves.
In popular culture
Fatburger has been repeatedly referenced in hiphop music. The Beastie Boys' 1986 hit "The New Style" proclaims, "I chill at White Castle 'cause it's the best, but I'm fly at Fatburger when I'm way out west." Notorious B.I.G.'s song "Going Back to Cali" includes the line, "If I wanna squirt her, take her to Fatburger". Ice Cube in his 1992 hit "It Was a Good Day" says, "Two in the morning got the Fatburger". His song "It Takes a Nation" also declares, "Bite you like a Fatburger if you got beef".In Six Feet Under episode "Grinding the Corn", David says to Keith, "I think I'll go to Fatburger. Alone."

The Jive Aces, winners of BBC TV's Opportunity Knocks, formed in 1989. They are a six-piece UK based, high energy, jive and swing band, who have many albums and singles to their name, and have performed at many music festivals. They received an award from the Variety Club of Great Britain for their charity work, and the City of Derry International Music Award in 2006. The band performs both cover versions and original material.
The Jive Aces played at the Berkeley Dress Show Ball in April 2010, and were featured in Hello! magazine. They also played at another prestigious society event, The Berkeley Square Ball, in 2009 and were pictured in OK! magazine with singer Rhyddian.
On 9 July 2010, the Jive Aces headlined at the first ever swing dance at the Royal Albert Hall. They played to approximately 1,300 dancers on the dance floor, along side the Back To Basie Orchestra and Top Shelf Jazz.
In late August 2010, the Jive Aces performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in a show tributing one of their musical heros, Louis Prima. They had special guests, Keely Smith and Toni Elizabeth Prima, perform with them (Louis Prima's ex-wife and daughter respectively) and gained a five star review from Edinburgh Spotlight.
The band performed at the Cork Jazz Festival in October 2010 and were featured in 5 newspapers, including the front page of the national paper The Irish Examiner and The Irish Times.
In Feb 2011 the Jive Aces toured the US again. They were in the LA area recording and performing in Hollywood, Pasadena and Cerritos also playing at the Macallum Center in Palm Dessert. In Cerritos they opened for the legendary Keely Smith, former wife and partner of the Las Vegas start Louis Prima. Then they toured the Washington DC area performing at the Dulles Hilton and the Spanish Ballroom in Glen Echo Park before a successful show at the Metropolitan Room in New York City ( Cabaret Scenes review NYC.
The Jive Aces produced a music video for their cover of the well known Morecambe and Wise theme song Bring Me Sunshine in a Louis Prima jive style and put in on youtube on March 17th. It got 50,000 views in the first week and is still growing. http://www.planetjive.co.uk/
Promotion of Scientology
The band have been known to perform up to 300 times a year, often promoting Scientology (sometimes controversially) or presenting an anti-drugs message. They have been noted for their energetic and confident performances, which they attribute to "workable solutions found in Scientology religious principles". performing to shoppers in city centres throughout the UK, to give a message to young people that it is "not cool to take drugs", and to collect signatures on a petition asking MPs for more effective drug education in UK schools.
