Netrebko & Garanca in I Capuleti ei Montecchi
We all know Netrebko and Garanca have received virtually as much bad propaganda from her detractors as hype from her fans. However, good singing is good singing, and this is a wonderful example in my opinion. Two maturing and improving artists with great talents and voices that blend extremely well. I Capuleti e I Montecchi part1
The story is that of Romeo and Juliet, drawn from the work by Shakespeare, which has been the subject of many musical versions since the Renaissance. However, Bellini and his librettist Romani were inspired by the great English playwright only indirectly, basing their work instead on some Italian texts from the 15th century. The result, however, can be considered as one of the masterpieces of the Sicilian composer, who died prematurely at the age of thirty-four.

Vincenzo Bellini - I Capuleti ed i Montecchi - "Oh! quante volte" (Hei-Kyung Hong)
Giulietta's superb opening romanza is all but too well-known to the audience, though, in this case, the renown is more than justified. Bellini could have easily gone away with another full cavatina (rather logical after the full arias of both Tebaldo and Romeo) but he chooses to go with a much more elegant and, in the context of the situation (Giulietta, as far as I can see from the text, is almost completely dressed for her imminent wedding ceremony and awaits her lover, in almost complete desperation) and the elegiac character of the young woman, a much more plausible solution: a highly romantic aria in basic couplet form, slightly reminiscent of Rossini's take on Shakespeare's Willow Song, though on a smaller (though no less musically rich) scale. Hei-Kyung Hong is a most sympathetic heroine, possessing a clear, sweet voice completely welcome in the aria. Hope you'll enjoy :)!

Vincenzo Bellini - I Capuleti ed i Montecchi - "Stolto! ad un sol mio grido" (Giacomo Aragall & Luciano Pavarotti)
The duet between Romeo and Tebaldo would have to be one of my personal highlights from Bellini's treatment of Shakespeare. Dealing with the men's preparation for the duel (which never happens), not only is it musically rich (especially, the stretta with its' stunning immediacy of emotion), but the piece also abandons the classical central andante, replacing it with a dramatic dialogue between the rivals over a simple but effective funeral chorus, lamenting Julietta's supposed death (accompanied suggestively only by harp, further highlighting the drama); divides the stretta into two contrasting sections: two sustained ariosos for both the men shocked by the tragic news and the stretta proper (here taken a bit too slow for my tastes, though this decision makes it more lyrical), as both men express their compassion for each other's plight. Two talented tenors in their prime, Giacomo Aragall and Luciano Pavarotti, provide much vocal excitement, while managing to communicate ideally their characters' feelings. Hope you'll enjoy :).

Midnight Sun | Iceland
BEST VIEWED IN HD AND FULLSCREEN (with scaling off)
Midnight Sun: A natural phenomenon occurring in the summer months north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle where the sun never fully sets and remains visible 24 hours a day.
This short time lapse film was shot during the Icelandic Midnight Sun in June of 2011.
For 17 days I travelled solo around the entire island shooting almost 24 hours, sleeping in the car, and eating whenever I had the time. During my days shooting this film I shot 38,000 images, travelled some 2900 miles, and saw some of the most amazing, beautiful, and indescribable landscapes on the planet. Iceland is absolutely one of the most beautiful and unusual places you could ever imagine. Especially during the Midnight Sun when the quality of light hitting the landscape is very unusual, and very spectacular.
Iceland is a landscape photographers paradise and playground, and should be number 1 on every photographers must visit list. Iceland during the Midnight Sun is in sort of a permanent state of sunset. The sun never full sets and travels horizontally across the horizon throughout the night, as can be seen in the opening shot and at the :51 second mark in the video.
During the Arctic summer, sunset was at midnight and sunrise was at 3am. The Arctic summer sun provided 24 hours a day of light, with as much as 6 hours daily of "Golden light". Once the sun had set it wouldn't even get dark enough for the stars to come out, and they don't start to reappear until August.
My advice to everyone out there, photographer or not, is simple... You MUST visit Iceland sometime during your lifetime. You will never regret it.

This video highlights several clips we've made using our new High Dynamic Range (HDR) process. Video is captured on two Canon 5D mark II DSLRs, each capturing the exact same subject via a beam splitter. The cameras are configured so that they record different exposure values, e.g., one camera is overexposed, the other underexposed. After the footage has been recorded, we use a variety of HDR processing tools to combine the video from the two cameras, yielding the clips you see above.
HDR Video provides filmmakers with many exciting new opportunities. Not only can HDR video create interesting effects, it can also allow for even exposure where artificial lighting is unavailable or impractical. For example, when a subject is backlit, one camera could be set to properly expose the subject, the other the sky, resulting in video with perfect exposure throughout.
We will continue to develop and improve the HDR video process for better results and efficiency. For more information, check out our website
