Leicester (/lɛstər/ LESS-tər pronunciation (help·info)) is a city and unitary authority in the East Midlands of England, and the county town of Leicestershire. The city lies on the River Soar and at the edge of the National Forest. In 2010, the population of the Leicester unitary authority was estimated at 306,600, the second highest in the region, whilst 441,213 people lived in the wider Leicester Urban Area in 2006, making Leicester the tenth most populous settlement in the United Kingdom and the UK's fourteenth largest urban area. It is the largest city in the East Midlands yet has the second largest urban area in the region behind Nottingham Urban Area. Eurostat's Larger Urban Zone listed the population of the area at 772,400 people as of 2004.
Ancient Roman pavements and baths remain in Leicester from its early settlement as Ratae Corieltauvorum, a Roman military outpost in a region inhabited by the Celtic Corieltauvi tribe. Following the demise of Roman society the early medieval Ratae Corieltauvorum is shrouded in obscurity, but when the settlement was captured by the Danes it became one of five fortified towns important to the Danelaw. The name "Leicester" is thought to derive from the words castra of the "Ligore", meaning camp of the dwellers on the (river) Legro. Leicester appears in the Domesday Book as "Ledecestre". Leicester continued to grow throughout the Early Modern period as a market town, although it was the Industrial Revolution that facilitated a process of rapid unplanned urbanisation in the area.

DJ SS (born Leroy Small, 27 August 1970, Leicester, England) is an English drum and bass DJ and record producer. SS is short for Scratchenstein, which is a name he used when he was a hip hop scratch DJ, and a part of the hip hop act, The Formation Five, whose name inspired the name of his record label. Has two children, Parris and Jordan and is married to wife, Tania who runs the artist management agency, UMC (Underground Music Collective). His siblings include Pam, Melanie and Fitzroy.
Originally a breakdancer, DJ Stratchenstein began playing electro music as a teenager in the early 1980s. He then played hip hop and rare groove before turning to producing in 1988 initially acid house, hardcore, breakbeat and finally drum and bass tracks.
SS got his big break DJ'ing at the big British raves of the early 1990s such as Telepathy. Since then he has gone on to DJ world wide. His biggest hit came in 2002 with "The Lighter", reaching number 63 on the UK Singles Chart.
SS is the co-founder and head of the Formation Records label, and has released over 100 tracks using a number of aliases. These include the "Color Series" and the "Country Series", MA3 "Those DJs", the piano-theme-from-Love Story-sampling "Lighter" (the label's biggest hit) plus many popular drum and bass tunes. He has also remixed "No Good (Start the Dance)" by The Prodigy. He has featured on radio shows such as BBC 1Xtra's D&B M1X, on which he put together an hour-long mix of Formation tracks and was interviewed about his career.

Rollz
Rollz is a drum and bass producer from London in the UK.
Matt Schofield started out in the drum and bass field simply as a DJ, already using the moniker of 'Rollz'. Time passed however, and his love of drum and bass pushed him into production and writing, practicing via online remix competitions. It was later on that Formation Records label head and founder DJ SS noticed Rollz and exclusively signed him to the stalwart label in 2009, with his debut track 'Solid State', appearing on the 2009 compilaion 'The Formation Family' and on the vinyl EP. Following this, Rollz' debut single 'Plugged In / Voice Of The Mysterons' was released, and it enjoyed radioplay from various DJs, such as Grooverider,Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Fabio, Rob da Bank and MistaJam on BBC Radio 1. 'Plugged In' was included in Zane Lowe's 'Hottest Records in the World' three weeks running and Grooverider's Drum and Bass tip for 2010.
After this, his debut extended play 'The Rollz EP' dropped, with all four tracks gaining radio play of the sorts, especially that of the first track, 'Sustain', which helped to define Rollz' 'sound' and input to the drum and bass genre. After the release of his second extended play 'The Drumstepper', which explored the genre of drumstep in 4 tracks. Besides doing some in-label remixes here and there, Rollz is currently working towards an album, confirmed to be titled 'Colours', with the first single 'Soul Calibur / M Theory', released mid-July.

Formation Records is a Leicester-based drum and bass label that was founded in 1989 by DJ SS (Leroy Small) and his partner Eidris. The label came to prominence from 1992 onwards releasing countless classics of darkside hardcore/jungle over the next couple of years. The label evolved with the times and by 1994 was one of the leading jungle labels.

In the wake of this, the label created a number of subsidiary labels, each showcasing a differing style of music from the main imprint, including 100% Records, 5HQ Recordings, Reformed Records, New Identity, Easymen, F Project, Dubform and lately, Digiform.

^Influx UK has stated he has retired, but he appears on Formation lineups and it can be assumed it meant retiring from production only.

John B (born John Bryn Williams, 1977, Maidenhead, Berkshire, England) is an English DJ and electronic music producer. He is widely recognised for his eccentric clothing and wild hair and his production of several cutting edge drum and bass tracks.

John B ranked #76 in DJ Magazine 's 2010 Top 100 DJs annual poll, announced on 27 October 2010.^[1]

Williams started producing music around the age of 14,^[2] and now is the head of drum and bass record label Beta Recordings, together with its more specialist^[3] drum and bass sub-labels Nu Electro,^[4] Tangent, and Chihuahua. He also has releases on Formation Records, Metalheadz and Planet Mu.

Williams was ranked 1st drum and bass DJ on the 2009 DJMag's top 100.^[5] and #92 on the DJ List as of October 3, 2009.^[6]

He attended Durham University.

While his trademark sound has evolved through the years, it generally involves female vocals and trance-like synths (a style which has been dubbed "trance and bass", "trancestep" and "futurestep" by listeners). His most recent concentration is an 1980s electroclash influenced fusion of electro and drum and bass, which was dubbed 'electrostep'. At first (around early 2002), this style seemed odd and comical to some in the drum and bass community.^[7] However, this move has given John the ability to carry his style of drum and bass forward. He has dabbled in darkstep, jazzstep and various other styles in his time. When he DJs, he is known to spin both drum and bass and electrohouse, sometimes with other genres such as disco and rock, in the same sets.
