Alpine 14 day weather commentary

The large area of high pressure over the Bight has been anchored for the past week and slowed the progress of a promised slow warming trend for the snowfields. The strong high is finally weakening and the snow level will rise slowly into the midweek as the airmass warms. Highland snow flurries or an isolated shower is possible into Tuesday down to 1800 metres. Visibility will improve through the week as winds ease and cloud clears from the west.

There are signs that next weekend will see scattered areas of light snow down to 1700 metres with a series of weak cold fronts. In the final week models indicate a stronger front by Tues the 21st that may bring the best chance of snow during the fortnight.

Issued Sunday 17:51
