Benjamin Zimmer is an American linguist and lexicographer. He is the "On Language" columnist for The New York Times Magazine and executive producer of the Visual Thesaurus. He was formerly a research associate at the University of Pennsylvania's Institute for Research in Cognitive Science and an editor of American dictionaries at Oxford University Press.

Lawrence E. Spivak
Lawrence Edmund Spivak (June 11, 1900 – March 9, 1994) was an American publisher and journalist who was best known as the co-founder, producer and host of the prestigious public affairs program Meet the Press. He and journalist Martha Rountree founded the program as promotion for Spivak's magazine, The American Mercury, and it became the longest-running continuous network series in television history. During his 28 years as panelist and moderator of Meet the Press, Spivak was known for his pointed questioning of policy makers.

Paul Harvey
Paul Harvey Aurandt (September 4, 1918 – February 28, 2009), better known as Paul Harvey, was an American radio broadcaster for the ABC Radio Networks. He broadcast News and Comment on weekday mornings and mid-days, and at noon on Saturdays, as well as his famous The Rest of the Story segments. His listening audience was estimated, at its peak, at 24 million people a week. Paul Harvey News was carried on 1,200 radio stations, 400 Armed Forces Network stations and 300 newspapers. His broadcasts and newspaper columns have been reprinted in the Congressional Record more than those of any other commentator.

Walter Cronkite
Walter Leland Cronkite, Jr. (November 4, 1916 – July 17, 2009) was an American broadcast journalist, best known as anchorman for the CBS Evening News for 19 years (1962–81). During the heyday of CBS News in the 1960s and 1970s, he was often cited as "the most trusted man in America" after being so named in an opinion poll. Although he reported many events from 1937 to 1981, including bombing in World War II, the Nuremberg trials, combat in the Vietnam War, the death of President John F. Kennedy, Watergate, and the Iran Hostage Crisis, he was known for extensive TV coverage of the U.S. space program, from Project Mercury to the Moon landings to the Space Shuttle. He was the only non-NASA recipient of a Moon-rock award. Cronkite is well known for his departing catchphrase "''And that's the way it is''," followed by the date on which the appearance is aired.

A newscaster (short for "news broadcaster'') is a presenter of a news bulletins. This person may be working journalist and news gatherer as well as a participant in compiling the script to be delivered in a news bulletin.Prior to the television era, radio-news broadcasts often mixed news with opinion and each presenter strove for a distinctive style. These presenters were referred to as commentators. The last major figure to present commentary in a news broadcast format in the US was Paul Harvey.[Dunning, John. "The Encyclopedia of Old Time Radio."] Today, commentary is generally presented in the longer-form talk show format. The term "newscaster" came into common use to distinguish presenters of straight news broadcasts from commentators.
In the UK, ITN's news presenters (especially those on ITV News) are referred to as newscasters (and have been since the 1950s), whilst those working at the BBC are called newsreaders.

In the United States and Canada, news anchors (also known as "anchorpersons", "anchormen", or "anchorwomen") present material prepared for a news program and, at times, must improvise commentary for live presentation. Many anchors are also involved in writing and/or editing the news for their programs. in Dayton, Ohio. News Anchors often report from sets such as this, located in or near the newsroom.]] The term "anchor man" was used to describe Walter Cronkite's role at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Although it has been commonly reported that news anchors were called cronkiters in Swedish, this notion has been debunked by linguist Ben Zimmer. Zimmer (and others) also note that the term anchor was in common use in 1952 to describe the most prominent member of a panel of reporters or experts. For example, in the original format of Meet The Press, Lawrence E. Spivak, who served as the only permanent member of a panel of four reporters, anchored the panel. Later, the term was applied to hosts of special events coverage and, still later, news presenters.
