FCPX + Lion + Cannot handle AAC or Apple Lossless audio in H.264! (Clicks and Pops)
(So first of all I tried all of this on a MBP on Snow Leopard and didn't run into these issues.) What the video is showing is how FCPX in Lion cannot handle compressed audio, especially AAC and Apple Lossless. Linear PCM (like Canon's H.264 DSLR movie files) or uncompressed audio is fine, and so are MP3s apparently (did a test just with MP3s and WAVs and AIFFs and it all came out fine). Now FCPX will export as H.264 (which its codec compresses the audio using AAC), however, if you then import this new footage, FCPX produces many audible clicks and pops, especially apparent if you then export it. Why is this important? For example, lots of footage can come to us already being encoded as AAC, like the iPhone 4 for example. It's H.264, but encoded as AAC. So until Apple provides a fix, it seems if we're gonna use any H.264 AAC video in FCPX with Lion, we're gonna have to somehow rip the audio out beforehand and convert it to a WAV, AIFF, or MP3, then align it back up. Very tedious. Please let me know if anybody else is having this same issue...
