A new polls says that a majority of Minnesota residents oppose adding a same-sex marriage ban to the state Constitution.

According to the Star Tribune Minnesota Poll, 58 percent oppose the amendment while 39 favor it – almost a reversal of poll results from seven years ago, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

“Opposition to the ban generally cuts across all ages, though support rises gradually with age. Sixty percent of Minnesotans aged 18 to 34 oppose the idea. A slim majority, 51 percent, of Minnesotans older than 65 oppose the constitutional ban,” The Star Tribune said.

The Minnesota Senate approved the amendment this week; the House is expected to follow. If it passes, an amendment restricting marriage in Minnesota to a man and a woman will be added to the ballot. It will be added to the state Constitution if a majority of voters approve it.

    • Well majority shouldn’t matter because that’s mob rule, but it would be nice to finally have a popular vote in our favor.

    • Unfortunately majority will matter if this goes to the ballot, although it should not.

Also, as we’ve seen (29?) times, polling doesn’t matter.

What matters is who votes on that particular day, and what they vote vs. what they say to a pollster.

History should tell us that margin is not enough, sadly.

    • “A majority opposes”.
      ************
However in this headline “A majority of Minnesota residents oppose”. Now you have “Minnesota residents” added to “A majority”
      As in “they”. “They oppose”.
      Elloreigh is right.

    • Looks just like the CA marriage equality support polls before Prop 8 passed. It’s a super soft number this far from the ballot.
