Church becomes student multi-media project in Quebec

    Extract from French description

Voyage to the Other Side of the Screen

    Eight months work
A small figure with hollow eyes who is groping in a synthetic universe is projected on five different screens, guided by a child who wrote her diary, until the roles are reversed, this is the strange experience created by students from UQAT for their end of year multimedia project.

Entitled Reversio, this adventure is the result of the work of group of 42 graduates, including twenty Chinese, five French and other students from several other countries. As they did last year, students have benefited from a collaboration of Cirque du Soleil for financial, technical and artistic support.

"Usually, several projects are implemented by the end of the baccalaureate. This year, we opted for a collective. It allowed us to design something larger, " said Caroline Trudel, Communications and Marketing for the collective.

    Brief but intense

Reversio was presented to an audience at the Agora Arts (formerly Church of the Immaculate Conception) on 5 and 6 May Even if it only lasts ten minutes, the journey is none the less intense.

On stage, a young boy, Victor, controls and transforms at will the imaginary world in which he changes into another boy, this one blind and anonymous. Gradually as the "play" progresses, Victor gradually loses control until the roles are reversed and he in turn is controlled by the artificially created boy.

Chilean Catholic Bishop accused of sexual abuse

Chile: Katholischer Bischof des sexuellen Missbrauchs beschuldigt » Chile » latina press Nachrichtenportal

    Anonymous e-mail to authorities

The Chilean judiciary and a Catholic educational institution according to local media have been sent complaints of sexual abuse of students by the Bishop of Chillán, Carlos Pellegrin Barrera. Pellegrin who Pope Benedict XVI appointed Bishop on 25 March 2006 was, from 1999 to 2006, Rector of the prestigious school Verbo Divino . He is said to have behaved indecently to children in his car. The authorities who were notified by an e-mail about the incident, have now launched an investigation.

And also seven children have allegedly been sexually abused in the Dominican Republic. The incident occurred at the "Centro Educativo Mis Dos Tesoros", a Catholic educational institution in Higuey, Altagracia province. According to local media reports, the Interim Director, Mateo Montilla, a Catholic priest is also alleged to have raped the minors.

In the Dominican Republic, according to a study by UNICEF in just six months last year, 1686 cases of abuse of young girls between 12 and 17 years were reported to the prosecutor. Of the reported cases, 35.6% of sexual crimes were committed in Santo Domingo, 35 cases being registered in Samaná. The real figure is likely to be much higher. Surveys indicate that many minors are sold on the beaches of the popular holiday paradise to mostly European sex tourists

Direct and personal attack on Hans Küng

FOCUS 19/2011: Interview: Matthias Matussek fordert Rückkehr der katholischen Kirche zur Tradition - Kurzfassungen - FOCUS Online

The writer and author (of "The Catholic Adventure") Matthias Matussek has turned on the critics of the church, Hans Küng and Heiner Geissler. In an interview with the news magazine FOCUS, Matussek said that they were "two old, narcissistic and sick men, both of whom believe that they would be the better pope. In any case, they think themselves infallible. Matussek called for a return to the tradition of the Catholic Church. In a "totally uninhibited society", the avant-garde should recognise tradition, he said. Matussek defended celibacy as the strongest signal to the "anti-bourgeois counter-world". Celibacy received criticism mainly because "refusing sexual intercourse is apparently the last mortal sin in our over-sexed society." The author also criticized the typically German support for the ordination of women. In this country, "a lot of energy is squandered on reform papers circulating in the ecclesiastical establishment, instead of taking into account the worldwide Church. The Germans take this too seriously. "Matussek praised Pope Benedict XVI. for his humanity and directness in the "hardest job that one can have on this earth."

Cathcon- how do you know you are narcissistic? When you keep a statue of yourself in your garden!

At seminary, Hans Küng was deeply conservative, and a vigorous supporter of the definition of Our Lady's bodily Assumption into heaven, in contrast to the present Pope who was a radical at seminary.  While Hans Küng was moving to the left, Joseph Ratzinger was moving to the right.  They were good friends at the Vatican Council, where both were advisers, as they were at that stage occupying the same intellectual ground.

Evidence of the Vatican's complete lack of commitment to Latin Mass

Der Heilige Vater - Benedikt XVI. - Motu Proprio - Der Heilige Stuhl:

"Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum on the "Roman liturgy prior to the reform of 1970" (July 7, 2007)
    [Hungarian, Latin]"

The Motu Proprio is only available on the Vatican website in Latin and Hungarian!

So the Hungarian bishops have no excuse for not implementing the Motu Proprio! And exactly how many bishops can read Latin in these modern times?

It is entirely symptomatic of the ecclesiastical limbo since the breakdown of the negotiations between the Holy See and the Society of St Pius X- almost inevitable if unreserved acceptance of the Second Vatican Council, to the exclusion of many other sources of authority, is used as a doctrinal test.

Vatican II cannot be used as a lens, with poor and unchangeable focus, transmitting little light, through which the whole of ecclesiastical history and indeed Revelation itself can be judged.

As a consequence, the Society will continue to be their own authority, with no hope of the great prize of influence on the whole Church.

Without the Latin Mass as a pre-condition, there is no way back for the Church, certainly in Europe.

    Cologne Cardinal fires gay theologian

Katholische Kirche: Kardinal Meisner entzieht schwulem Theologen die Lehrerlaubnis | Gesellschaft | ZEIT ONLINE:

The Cologne Archbishop Joachim Meisner has withdrawn the license to teach from the gay author David Berger . The 77-year-old cardinal said on Thursday that Berger's criticism of the church had destroyed his confidence in Berger.

Berger made sharp criticisms of the Church in his book Der heilige Schein (Cathcon- double meaning- The Halo or The Holy Sham). The 43-year-old told of a "Catholic Jihad" and of the increasing influence of the ultra-conservatives on the whole church .

"It is the overall impression," said Meisner’s spokesman, Christoph Heckeley.

"With any other employer, the situation would lead to consequences. It would be as if a bank employee said publicly. "I am not good at sums, and with bank statements, I am also not quite accurate".

Berger says his sacking goes back to the pressure from extremely conservative forces who have organized petitions and even demanded the death penalty for homosexuals. "That shocked me the most." He cited several sites among them Kreuz.net and Kath.net . Kreuz.net commented on the withdrawal of permission to teach by saying: "Now the gay has got what he wanted," and described Berger as "disturbed".

Berger denied that he had attacked the Catholic Church as such. "My book is not different from Catholic teaching, I wrote it out of love of the Church." He criticizes only specific abuses within the church, and this is the task of every member of the Catholic laity. Berger will now teach his second subject of German at the Ville-Gymnasium in Erfstadt near Cologne.

The Parliamentary secretary for the Green Party, Volker Beck, criticized the decision, "Meisner takes away the responsibilities of an accomplished theologian , just because he does not live asexually. If the Catholic Church had only have been half as consistent in the cases of sexual abuse. " With the right-wing Society of St Pius X the cardinal has no problems - he makes further concessions to them in the archdiocese. The reform movement "We Are Church" protested against the dismissal.

Meisner is one of the most conservative of German bishops and in the Archdiocese of Cologne, he is known to act harshly with critics. A source told dpa that homosexuality in this case is the real reason for the withdrawal of the permission to teach, while on tactical grounds Meisner likes to choose another ground so as not to encounter much opposition within the church. To openly live out homosexuality is for the Cardinal unacceptable.

Berger inititally made a career in the Catholic Church and enjoyed a good reputation especially in conservative circles . In 2003, he joined the Pontifical Academy of St Thomas and and edited the journal Theologisches, mostly read by traditionalists. However, because of the "demonization" of homosexuals, he resigned and in 2010 published the book  Der heilige Schein, which attracted huge media attention.

Cathcon comment-  met Dr Berger once- at weekend organised by the Society of St Pius X  on the differences between modern and scholastic philosophy.   His work on Thomistic philosophy is of a very high quality, as witnessed by this 2004 book on St Thomas and the Liturgy.

    Vatican accused in Belgium

Victims of sexual abuse within the church want to take the Vatican to court in Brussels, said Wednesday the lawyer, Walter Van Steenbrugge, who with his fellow lawyer, Christine Mussche represents some 75 victims.

The victims complain about the Vatican's negligent conduct and their lack of reaction to the announcement of sexual abuse. Mr. Van Steenbrugge will make a legal complaint about the Vatican in Brussels, which is where the investigative judge Wim De Troy is inquiring into acts of non-assistance to persons in danger associated with the sexual abuse occurred within the Church. Walter Van Steenbrugge also is focusing on people in Belgium, but he will not reveal their identity. The victims will know themselves in the middle of May, after the introduction of the complaint. Bishop Williamson/ Cardinal Schönborn / Vatican

Bishop Williamson will be back in court in two months which will be deciding whether to change the penalty for his conviction for inciting racial hatred.

Meanwhile, Viennese Cardinal Schönborn has told Osservatore Romano that Blessed Pope John Paul II is likely to be made a saint. He says there is a clear demand for this to occur.

The Pope has asked states to be guarantees of religious liberty in an address to the Pontifical Academy of Soiences- before the Council, the Vatican would expect states to support the Catholic Faith.

Veneration of Blessed Pope John Paul II

Row breaks out in Belgium over Blessed Pope John Paul II

The acting Deputy Prime Minister, Laurette Onkelinx has attacked the acting Prime Minister, Yves Leterme for attending the beatification of Blessed Pope John Paul II.

She cannot understand why he is attending as Archbishop Leonard has not accepted any sense of ecclesiastical responsibility for the sexual abuse scandals in the Belgium church, especially given the financial support that the church receives from the state.

She is a socialist, so has an axe to grind even if there had been no scandal. The only party that is more hostile to the church is the Greens- and that is true across Europe generally.

Belgium has not had a real government for almost a year, as coalition negotiations have yielded nothing since the last general election on 13 June 2010.

She has not, however, attacked the Belgium King Albert II who was also present at the beatification this morning- he still retains significant powers in the formation of governments. But it was the King who asked the Prime Minister to accompany him. The distinction is drawn by LeSoir, one of the main Belgian dailies, between the elevation of Pope Benedict XVI and what is considered a purely religious ceremony.
