Lillian Roxon (8 February 1932 - 10 August 1973) was a noted Australian journalist and author, best known for Lillian Roxon's Rock Encyclopedia (1969). Her niece Nicola Roxon, the Australian politician, is currently the federal Attorney-General.

She was born Lillian Ropschitz in Alassio, Province of Savona, Italy. Her family, originally from Lwów Ukraine, then Poland, moved to the coastal town of Alassio in Italy, where Lillian was born. Because the Ropschitz family were Jewish, they migrated to Australia in 1937 to escape the rise of fascism, and they settled in Brisbane. Shortly after their arrival, the family anglicised their names; the surname Roxon was Lillian's suggestion.

She studied at the University of Queensland, where she met and had a brief affair with Zell Rabin, who gave Lillian her first job in America and who became a key associate of Rupert Murdoch in the early 1960s. She pursued further studies at the University of Sydney in the 1950s, where she fell in with the freewheeling movement known as the Sydney Push. In the process, she attracted the attention of an ASIO operative and was "reported on 25-6-51 as a communist sympathiser". She began her career in newspapers in Sydney and for several years worked for the tabloid magazine Weekend, owned by newspaper magnate Sir Frank Packer and edited by renowned author Donald Horne.

James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American musician and singer-songwriter. He is widely considered to be the greatest electric guitarist in music history, and one of the most influential musicians of his era despite mainstream exposure limited to just three years. After initial success in Europe with his group The Jimi Hendrix Experience, he achieved fame in the United States following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, he headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival and the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. He often favored raw overdriven amplifiers with high gain and treble and helped develop the previously undesirable technique of guitar amplifier feedback.

Hendrix helped to popularize use of the wah-wah pedal in mainstream rock, which he often used to deliver tonal exaggerations in his solos, particularly with high bends, complex guitar playing, and use of legato. As a record producer, he also broke new ground in using the recording studio as an extension of his musical ideas. He was one of the first to experiment with stereophonic phasing effects for rock recording.^{[citation needed]} He was influenced by blues artists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Albert King and Elmore James,rhythm and blues and soul guitarists Curtis Mayfield and Steve Cropper, and the jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery. Hendrix began dressing and wearing a moustache like Little Richard when he performed and recorded in his band from March 1, 1964 through to the spring of 1965. In 1966, he stated, "I want to do with my guitar what Little Richard does with his voice".

Paul Clarke (born in County Dublin, Ireland) is an All Star winning former Gaelic footballer for Dublin. He played football with his local club Whitehall Colmcille in Dublin and was a member of the Dublin senior football team for a number of years, starting in 1985. He earned his first and only All-Ireland medal in 1995, the same year in which he won his only All Star award.

Having played soccer as a child up to Under-14 level, Clarke began playing Gaelic football while at school at St Aiden's CBS, in Dublin. He went on to join Whitehall Colmcille's, his local club, and was quickly noticed and selected for the inter-county Under 14 side, with whom he went on to win an under-14 leinster title. Clarke joined the Dublin minor football team in 1983, and in 1984, led them to an All-Ireland Minor Football Championship as captain. In 1983, he went on a tour of Australia with a colleges team, where try-outs for Australian Rules Football were held, but he was not selected.

Clarke joined the Dublin senior panel in October 1985 and had his debut in a win against Donegal in a National League fixture. Over the course of the next decade, he would play in many positions in the backs, midfield and forwards. In 1995, playing in his fourth All-Ireland final, Clarke finally won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal, and also won an All Star award the same year.

Nicola Louise Roxon (born 1 April 1967) is the Attorney-General of Australia. She has been a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives since 1998, representing the Division of Gellibrand, in the inner-western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria.

Roxon was born in Sydney. She is the second of three daughters and the niece of the late Australian journalist and Sydney Push member Lillian Roxon. Her paternal grandparents were Jewish and migrated from Poland to Australia in 1937. Anglicising the family name from Ropschitz to Roxon, her grandfather worked as a GP in Gympie and Brisbane. Her mother Lesley trained as a pharmacist, while her father Jack was a microbiologist. He was a strong influence in her life and she was devastated by his death from cancer when she was 10 years old.

Roxon was educated at the Methodist Ladies' College in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, and the University of Melbourne. She ultimately came to the view that "governments have got a role to make sure they can help people in circumstances they can't control—either through their health failing or an accident". She has publicly stated that she is an atheist.

Janelle Anne Saffin (born 1 November 1954) is an Australian politician. She has been an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives since November 2007, representing the electorate of Page. She previously served as a Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1995 to 2003.

Saffin was born into a working-class family in Ipswich in Queensland. She left school at thirteen, and worked in a range of unskilled jobs before gaining her Intermediate Certificate at TAFE. She moved to Lismore at the age of 24, and began working as the co-ordinator of a women's refuge. She also established a domestic violence liaison committee with the local police, which was the first of its kind outside Sydney. She later gained a teaching qualification at the Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education, and taught for a period before deciding to retrain as a lawyer and gaining a degree by correspondence from Macquarie University.

She ran as the Labor candidate for the seat of Lismore at the 1991 state election, but was defeated by incumbent National Party MP Barry Rixon. Four years later, she contested and won preselection for the eighth and last winnable position on the Labor ticket for the Legislative Council at the 1995 state election. Labor's victory at the election thus saw her comfortably elected, albeit on preferences, on election day.
