On March 15, 2011, it was time to celebrate the birth (or re-birth) of The Rock of Boston. The legendary WBCN turned 43 March 15 and several BCN legends dropped by on WBCN Free Form Rock (100.7-HD3).
Albert O. kicked things off at 9am. Then at 10am, an encore of Charles Laquidara‘s broadcast from last month aired. At 2pm, one of the longest-running Program Directors in rock radio history, Oedipus, delivered an unforgettable Nocturnal Emissions. Sam Kopper and Carter Alan discussed Carter’s WBCN book he’s writing and Shred wrapped up the celebration.
If you missed the WBCN Birthday Broadcast, we’ll be uploading podcasts from time to time here at WBCN.com.
The mission was made clear during the broadcast… if you want this kind of radio on a permanent basis, we need you. Help us wake the BCN fans up who don’t realize we’re back… if we’re wanted. Do you want WBCN back? Only 150 were listening online. More were listening to soft rock hits on our sister station WODS-HD2 “The Cove.” Like both WBCN channels, the Cove exists on HD and online exclusively. Yet, they don’t have a unique format or live DJs. We do.
You want WBCN back? 150 listeners will not do it.
What can you do?
- Add WBCN to your Facebook and post a status update that you’re listening to WBCN right now. Watch the reaction!
- Send a tweet and direct it @WBCN and add #Boston.
- Not a social media person? Just simply tell someone you’re listening to WBCN again and that you love it. It’s old fashioned and not all that “viral,” but it works.
- Support the advertisers like Live Nation and tell them you heard about it on WBCN.
- Most importantly… listen. Listen online or with your phone. “Big brother” knows exactly how many are listening. No Arbitron margin of error. We get reports every 5 minutes!
