    Walrus ~ 1970 ~ Walrus
    genre: jazz
    country: uk
quality: lossless (ape, cue, log, scans)
    time: 44'10" size: 318 mb

    the Tapestry of Delights:

A jazzy/bluesy progressive outfit. They utilised horns but it's some of the guitar leads which catch the ear. Roger Harrison guested on drums on the opening cut, Who Can I Trust? and their cover of Traffic's Coloured Rain. Most of the material was written by bassist Steve Hawthorn. Aside from Who Can I Trust?, his better numbers include Why, which is quite mellow with lots of flute, the jazzy Turning, which starts with a spoken monologue from Hawthorn and the final track Tomorrow Never Comes. The album's front cover designed by David Ansley features his drawing of a walrus.

This act should not be confused with the US Walrus, who issued an album in the US on Janus. The American band, from LA, had a strong gospel influence. Their drummer, however, was English: Warren 'Bugs' Pemberton, who was also with Lomax AllianceJackie Lomax and The Undertakers.

Aigues Vives ~ 1981 ~ Water Of Seasons
    genre: prog folk
    country: germany
quality: lossless (wv, cue, log, scans)
    time: 55'20" size: 436 mb

    ProgArchives:

Named for a French town whose name in turn refers to "prosperous fountain/source", Aigues Vives was formed in 1971 in the part of Germany close to the Belgian border. Initially, they were influenced mostly by the progressive rock of their day, but several purges and reformations cast them as a mostly acoustic folk group with plenty of progressive touches. Not particularly German sounding, they nonetheless do bear some comparison to early Hoelderlin, Broselmaschine, or even Emtidi

It was the third incarnation that finally committed a recording to posterity. Water of Seasons is an entrancing and trippy yet rooted disc that appeals across a broad spectrum of prog folk, psychedelic, and German progressive fans. It was released in a limited edition of 1000 copies and commands a healthy price among collectors.

After yet another lineup change, the group integrated a rock backing with medieval sounding folk in a homegrown cassette Dwarfs Casting Long Shadows, meant to presage a second LP that never materialized.

    the Mandrake Memorial ~ 1969 ~ Puzzle
    genre: psych
    country: uk
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, scans)
    time: 50'10" size: 292 mb

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:

The Mandrake Memorial began life with an unknown New York City band called The Novae Police, featuring Kevin Lally and Randy Monaco. They played in the Village for a while, opening for bands like The Flying Machine (featuring James Taylor), whilst Randy was also doing a lot of demo work, singing on the first demo of "Happy Together" which The Turtles later recorded.

Meanwhile, guitarist Craig Anderton was playing in a college band from the University of Pennsylvania called The Flowers of Evil, who played shows with Woody's Truck Stop (Todd Rundgren's first band). Keyboardist Michael Kac was also in Philadelphia's Cat's Cradle.

The Mandrake's came together through promoter Larry Schriver, who was working in conjunction with club owner Manny Rubin. Manny was looking for a house band for his club, The Trauma in Philadelphia. The band started playing the Philadelphia, New York, Boston and college circuits, even appearing with Pink Floyd on TV and through Manny obtained a deal with MGM subsidiary Poppy (their first two albums were issued by RCA in the UK).

the Action ~ 1980 ~ The Ultimate! Action
    genre: beat
    country: uk
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, scans)
    time: 49'32" size:  mb

"... The Action were highly popular on the club circuit but despite a top producer and a string of excellent singles, they never managed to crack the charts. Their sound was someway between the soulful side of the Small Faces and the harmonies of the Beach Boys. A move more towards the style of the latter followed and some have said that this may have prevented the release of the album as it was more focused on the earlier soul style."

Their varied album, which was prouced by Eddie Offord, featured a laborious selection of introverted riffs and one song, Too Much..., which was very Beatle-ish.
